Honorary Doctorate, Outgoing Student Trustee, Honors Students in Pittsburgh

57th honorary doctorate goes to healthcare pioneer; student trustee recognized for service; Business Honors students get glimpse of corporate careers; and more
Bonnie Harbison Anderson, a 1980 IUP graduate, became the university’s 57th honorary doctoral degree recipient and gave the keynote address at the spring commencement ceremonies. Anderson is a cofounder and former CEO of Veracyte, a California-based diagnostics company that leverages innovations in genomic technology.
Last week, the IUP Council of Trustees recognized Maura King for her two years of service as a student member. King graduated on Saturday with a bachelor’s degree in early childhood education and a perfect 4.0 grade point average. She also presented the senior class gift during the ceremony.
A member of the Cook Honors College majoring in math, Shari Hoch was one of nine college students accepted into a National Science Foundation-sponsored REU (Research Experiences for Undergraduates) program happening this summer at Bryn Mawr College.
In April, freshmen in the Business Honors program traveled to Pittsburgh to see the corporate headquarters of US Steel Corporation and PNC Financial Services Group, Inc., and to meet with alumni and other professionals who work there.
At its annual banquet last week, the Department of Student Affairs in Higher Education honored its graduating students and recognized two, Kayla Mikesell and Bennett Nesley, for exceptional accomplishments.
