Susan G. Kormen Breast Cancer Research
Program: Career Catalyst Research
Synopsis: Supports full-time faculty — who have not held any faculty position for more than 6 years — with up to three years of “protected time” for research career development under the guidance of a Mentor Committee. Specifically, seeks to support two investigators who will emerge as the next key leaders in the fight against breast cancer, one of whom is a member of a minoritized group in the biomedical sciences as defined by the National Science Foundation data. Research projects must be hypothesis-driven, breast cancer-focused studies. They may be considered basic, translational, clinical and/or population science in nature and should align with Komen’s research goals and priorities and mission to save lives from breast cancer.

Susan G. Kormen Breast Cancer Research
Program: Career Transition Awards
Synopsis: Supports outstanding senior postdoctoral fellows and clinical fellows, working under the guidance of a mentor, to launch their competitive, independent breast cancer research careers. These awards provide up to five years of funding in two phases: Phase 1 supports the final years of mentored, postdoctoral training and Phase 2 supports the independent research of the early career, tenure-track investigators. Program supports 2 researchers, one of whom must be a member of a minoritized group in biomedical sciences as defined by the National Science Foundation data.
Award details: Application budgets may request up to $650K over the two phases of the Award. Up to $100K per year (direct costs only) for up to two years may be requested for the first phase of the Career Transition Award to support the postdoctoral work. Synopsis: Supports community and design leaders — from a wide geography and set of perspectives on diverse change efforts —to think together about ways to catalyze transformational design, planning, and place-keeping from the ground up. Program: Middle Eastern and Islamic Studies Fellowship
Synopsis: Supports advanced research on The New York Public Library’s holdings of materials from the Arab world, Turkey, Iran, South Asia, Central Asia, and their diasporas in the United States. Fellowships are open to Ph.D. candidates, post-doctoral scholars, and independent researchers with projects that would significantly benefit from research drawing on collections accessible at The New York Public Library. Projects requiring access to original materials including manuscripts, archives, books, photographs, prints, maps, newspapers, and journals will be given preference, but all worthy projects will be considered. Program: Music and Nature-based Therapy for Brain and Mental Health
Synopsis: Supports high-quality and innovative organizations serving their communities in Southern California and Boston by providing opportunities for people to engage in either music therapy or nature-based programming. TIMCity is open to organizations serving any population, including but not limited to youth, the elderly, veterans, hospital and hospice patients, etc. Similarly, any area of brain health is welcome as a focus of a proposal, including both neurodegenerative and psychiatric conditions, as well as programs that have a preventative approach for general mental well-being.

Program: Grand Challenge – AI for Climate and Nature (Phase 1)
Synopsis: Supports the exploration of new ideas for multiplying the impact of climate and nature efforts using modern AI. The first round of awards will focus on sustainable proteins, power grid optimization, and biodiversity conservation, in addition to embracing visionary wildcard solutions for climate and nature. The program invites grant proposals from eligible organizations: U.S.-based 501(c)(3) entities and global academic institutions. In keeping with the Bezos Earth Fund’s commitment to equity and access, eligible applicants may collaborate with organizations all over the world to develop their proposals. Synopsis: Supports full-time independent investigators at the rank of Assistant Professor or Associate Professor (or equivalent) with established independent research programs who have already demonstrated a firm commitment to cognitive aging research. One award will be made to support innovative studies focusing on clinical translational research and another will support innovative studies of basic biological mechanisms underlying cognitive aging and age-related memory loss. Program: Macular Degeneration Program
Synopsis: Supports pioneering research leading to greater understanding, prevention, and treatment of age-related macular degeneration. Three types of awards are offered:
(1) Postdoctoral Fellowship - Support young postdoctoral researchers during their final stages of mentored training. The award provides salary support for a young scientist to conduct postdoctoral studies in an established laboratory focused on research contributing to understanding the biological causes and/or new clinical treatment of macular degeneration and should also serve as the basis for the applicant's own independent research career.
