Taking Center Stage!

This year, CAC’s spring production is Freaky Friday. It is a musical about a mom and her teenage daughter who magically switch bodies for a day. They must live each other’s lives and learn how hard it is to be in the other person’s shoes. Along the way, they gain a better understanding of each other, and their relationship grows stronger. By the end, they work together to switch back and appreciate their family more.

Ethan Farmer has been a part of the production staff at CAC for six shows, and Freaky Friday will be his 7th show. He started when he was in 9th grade when CAC did Frozen Jr.

“I had a couple friends who told me that I should try it out and see if I liked it,” he said.

He says his favorite thing about being a stage manager is teaching people and helping them grow in something that they love. Ethan’s favorite play that he has ever done was Little Women, and his favorite musical was Percy Jackson: The Lightning Thief Musical.

“Absolutely do theatre,” he said. “I had only had one theatre class before I started, and I instantly fell in love.”

Martin Luther King Jr. Day

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. is one of history’s most influential leaders. He was a great social activist and did so much for the Civil Rights Movement. King was born in 1929 in Atlanta Georgia. He became an activist around the age of 26 in 1955, which was right around the time the movement began. Before Dr. King became an activist, he was ordained as a pastor in 1948 and preached at various churches.

One of King’s most notable career points was his famous, “I Have a Dream” speech. This speech was delivered on August 28, 1963 during the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom. “I Have a Dream” is widely known for King’s longing for a brighter equal future. In the speech, Dr. King urges Americans to help end racism and to bring equality to the nation. He pleads for a future where everyone no matter race can have peace with one another.

“I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.”

Martin Luther King Day is a national holiday that was established in 1963. It is celebrated on the third Monday of January annually. MLK serves as a day to remember and reflect on how much Dr. King did for our country today while also observing what ongoing struggles that are still present in our current society.  Martin Luther King Day may only be once a year, but we should strive to continue Dr. King’s mission by creating a more just and peaceful society every single day.

Student Feature — Naomi Hyatt

Senior Naomi Hyatt decided to do her first chapel last Friday. She has had a chapel lesson planned out since the summertime just sitting in her notebook. Naomi went on the Passion senior trip in the beginning of January. While she was there she got a feeling that God was telling her that someone needed to hear what she had to say in the chapel. To others wanting to speak in chapel she said, “Just take the leap of faith.” She talks more about when you get up to speak, you are going to realize there are people that wanna hear what you have to say and that it’s important. A way to help not get desensitized is to not only read your bible stories but study them and take them verse by verse. “There is no filler verse in the bible. When you start to study the verses you really get to see how powerful God is." Naomi goes on to say she wishes she would have spoken in chapel earlier in her time at CAC, and she encourages to not just make it just a senior year thing. Naomi says to start now and have a goal to go out and do chapel once a year.
