Student Spotlight: Summer MacPherson
Summer is a communications media major and theatre minor and will graduate in 2026. A student in the Cook Honors College, Summer is an active member of Students Against Racism (IUP-SAR), is director of External Affairs for the Student Government Association, and is a deejay and the promotions director for WIUP-FM. They are a founding member and president of IUP House of Drag, a club that spreads knowledge of the art of drag and offers engaging opportunities for interested students. We thank you, Summer!
Staff Spotlight: Lydia Rodríguez
Lydia is a faculty member in the Department of Foreign Languages, where she imparts her expertise in Spanish language and Latin American literature and culture. Her scholarly contributions include the publication of three books and numerous articles and the delivery of conference presentations and workshops in various countries. Lydia’s academic focus revolves around the exploration of themes such as Latin American women writers, race and gender diversity, and equality portrayed in literature and vis-à-vis reality. She has played a pivotal role as coordinator of the Latin American Studies (LAS) Minor program, for which she curated and organized course offerings in coordination with other departments and collaborates with fellow faculty members to foster and advance the study of Latin America. Through LAS, Lydia actively engages both the IUP campus and the wider Indiana community by organizing conferences, musical events, and film screenings that delve into the rich history, cultures, and language of Latin America and the profound influence of Latin America in the United States. Lydia serves as editor of the Hispanic Journal, a prestigious academic journal housed within the Department of Foreign Languages that has earned worldwide recognition. She is an active presenter and participant in FOLDIS (Foreign Language Diversity and Inclusion Series). We thank you, Lydia!

Hazing is a widespread, far-reaching practice fueled by tradition, secrecy, groupthink, power, and the desire to belong in fraternities, sororities, and other groups on college campuses across the country. Filmmaker Byron Hurt embarks on a deeply personal journey to understand the underground rituals of hazing, revealing the abusive lengths college students will go to in order to fit in. 6:00–7:00 p.m.—HUB Ohio Room
Holocaust survivors Oscar Singer and Albert Farhy will share their stories. All members of the IUP community are encouraged to attend this free presentation. Attendance vouchers will be available. Through this event, the Holocaust Remembrance Committee and Jewish Student Union hope to show that IUP is a unified community dedicated to speaking out against antisemitism and all forms of hate.
