Teaching Tip: Learning from our student panel |
|
|
On October 22nd, 2024, the Hub hosted a student panel for a faculty audience on the subject of GenAI and its impact on learning at University of Michigan-Dearborn. The interest in the topic was evident in the strong response: there were seven student panelists (and an alternates list!) as well as 45 faculty members who attended the virtual panel. Due to student privacy concerns, we did not record the panel, but it included experienced students (and one alum) from three different colleges on campus.
Four hubsters summarized their takeaways from what students shared in a recent blog post.

-
Carla wants us to remember that GenAI is having an effect on all of us, students and teachers alike.
- Belen encourages us to be as clear and engaging with our students as we can be, because it helps students stay focused on their learning.
- Chen reminds us that trust, academic integrity, and creativity are in a delicate balance all the time, and certainly now with the advent these tools.
- Jessica shares how much students want to hear from you, their instructors, about how this does or doesn't change how they will learn in your class.

One more week of November appointments
|
|
|
Just a quick reminder that the Hub will be closed along with the rest of campus from Monday November 25 to Friday November 29th. That means if you want a consultation before December, next week (November 18th to 22) is your chance! We will return to our usual availability from December 2 to 20th.
We are happy to meet with you for any teaching concerns, large or small, in any modality, whether it's a one-off meeting or longer-term planning. For issues arising in your classes, PBL, GenAI, or anything else, we're here to help!

While the HubCap is designed with our faculty as the primary audience, others (campus leaders, directors, student services staff) may also find valuable insights within. Feel free to forward this newsletter on if you know someone who could benefit from this information.
