Faithful Resistance: A Public United Methodist Witness for Immigrant Justice
Several United Methodist agencies (Church and Society, Religion and Race, and United Methodist Committee on Relief) are participating in an ecumenical and interfaith worship service and witness calling for the humane treatment of immigrants. This event is happening in Washington D.C. on Wednesday, February 25. First United Methodist Church of Austin has invited us to participate in an Austin-area witness.
The day will begin with worship, followed by a prayerful march to the State Capitol for prayer. This is an opportunity to show solidarity for immigrants and call upon Christians everywhere to live out Christ’s call on all of us to “welcome the stranger.”
9:00am – 10:00am | Watch the Opening WorshipService from D.C. together in the FUMC Sanctuary (1201 Lavaca)
10:00am | Peaceful Procession to the Texas Capitol for prayer
Parking is available in the Capitol Visitors Parking Garage, 1201 San Jacinto Blvd, Austin, Texas 78701

ADULT SUNDAY SCHOOL HAPPENINGS, Feb 15 10am, Sundays
(zoom options available, contact individual classes)
Journey with Joy, Rm 204 (Chapel), 2nd Floor
“Prayer: Does It Make Any Difference?” by Philip Yancey. This study probes the very heartbeat of our relationship with God: prayer. What is prayer? Does it change God's mind or ours or both. Participant Guide is available in the classroom. The cost is $8. Contact Dolly Shubert (dollyshubert@yahoo.com)
Hearts Transformed Class, Rm 203, 2nd Floor
This class studies the weekly worship sermon...“Listening for Love”
Matthew 17:1-9 The Transfiguration is the ultimate revelation of Jesus, and it echoes the voice of God in baptism. But it adds this phrase “listen to him!” And looking throughout Matthew, we can see a thread that ties Jesus’ message together - a theme that MLK summarizes with his famous quote “hate cannot drive out hate, only love can do that.” Jesus comes to fulfill the law by showing us how to use it for love. So how will you be transfigured when you listen for love?
