Shift Robotics to Unveil a New Moonwalkers Model at
CES 2024
Shift Robotics has announced it will unveil a new model of Moonwalkers® robotic shoes at CES 2024, America's largest technology-focused convention and trade show. Named recently by TIME as one of the "200 Best Inventions of 2023," Moonwalkers are robotic shoes that use artificial intelligence to measure a user's stride 100-times-per-second.

Wole Idowu of TOYZ Electronics
Damola and Wole Idowu are quite a dynamic duo! This father and son pair are highly educated engineers, creatives, and entrepreneurs. They’re also the cofounders of Toyz Electronicsa company working out of the CMU Swartz Center that gamifies STEAM education to promote equity and diversity in the
tech workforce.

The Tech Council’s Sheena Carroll recently spoke with Damola and Wole about Toyz’s origins and their thoughts on Pittsburgh’s future. Watch the video.

Materials Science and Engineering PhD Spencer Matonis Celebrates Completion of His Thesis 
Carnegie Mellon University Material Science and Engineering PhD Spencer Matonis, announced that he has completed his thesis overview/proposal. The founder and CEO of Edulis Therapeutics, a platform to administer small molecule medications in patients with gastrointestinal pathologies, is also a James R. Swartz Entrepreneurial Fellow, Dowd Fellow and Innovation Commercialization Fellow.

Registration is open for the 2024 McGinnis Venture Competition, a platform exclusively for Carnegie Mellon University's community of student entrepreneurs. This competition brings together Carnegie Mellon's best and brightest student entrepreneurs to compete for $60K in investments. All participants receive crucial interaction with alumni entrepreneurs and venture capitalists, an opportunity to raise capital and valuable feedback about ventures.

The Round one submission deadline is January 16, 2024 at 11:59 PM ET.

Startup companies with a founder who is a CMU graduate, undergraduate or alumni is eligible to register for
an appointment.
