The Chicago City Council is expected to vote Sept. 29 on a proposal allowing Stonepeak Partners to acquire Chicago's parking meter lease interests from the current ownership group. The deal would provide the city with an upfront payment and a share of future profits. Evan McKenzie, professor of political science at UIC, can talk about the legal, financial and political implications of the proposed transfer, as well as what the debate over the 2008 deal and the current one reveals about privatization, municipal finance and public accountability.
