Give your pumpkins and jack-o'-lanterns an afterlife as compost at Skokie’s Pumpkin Smash!
Help smash our record: Bring pumpkins to the northwest corner of Oakton Street and Floral Avenue on Sunday, November 3, from 7:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., across the street from the Skokie Farmers' Market. Last year, 3.25 tons of pumpkins were composted.

D219 Students Learn Manufacturing
|
On Monday, October 28, a group of 30 students from Niles Township High School District 219 were treated to a career pathways experience through a partnership between the Village of Skokie, Oakton College and Skokie Public Library. In addition to presentations and panel discussions from industry leaders, students toured the new UL Materials Research Discovery Center at the Illinois Science and Technology Park, the CNC and Automation labs at Oakton College, and the beverage manufacturing facility at Boombox Beverage.
Manufacturing Matters: This event was part of the Village’s recognition of Manufacturing Month, a national initiative to recognize the importance and contributions of our manufacturers to both the workforce and economy.

Getting Rid of Rats: Steps You Can Take

During cooler months, rat activity may increase as rats search for food and shelter.
Although the Village of Skokie provides treatment for active rat burrows at no cost to residents, you can help discourage rat activity on your property by taking these actions.

Standing Ovation for North Shore Center Improvements

Within the last year, the North Shore Center for the Performing Arts in Skokie has undergone a number of exterior improvements.
What you’ll see: Improvements include entrance renovations, exterior repainting and sail replacement, and installation of new landscaping, which includes a variety of native species and was completed with funds raised by the North Shore Center for the Performing Arts Foundation.

Join the Skokie Telecommunications and Technology (STAT) Commission for a free seminar on fraud and cybersecurity on Thursday, November 7, 7 p.m. at Skokie Police Headquarters, 7300 Niles Center Rd.
What to expect: Hear from an experienced information security professional and Skokie Police officers. Materials covered will include an intro to modern information security and digital privacy, how to protect yourself online, and how and when to contact police if you believe you've been a victim of cybercrime. Register in advance.
