Dear colleagues,
I join our W&M community in mourning the tragic loss of Lana D. Fellows, one of our newest students. W&M resources are available for anyone who needs them in this time of grief. Senior Vice President Ginger Ambler will share information about memorial arrangements once available. The final weeks of the semester can be challenging, so please continue to support one another, your students, and yourselves. My door is always open to you as well.
I return from our recent break feeling especially grateful for our continued collaboration throughout an eventful fall. In this busy season, I encourage you to seek moments of joy and community in the work we do.

Here are the top 5 things to know this week:
|
- Please be aware of final grading deadlines for the semester. Banner 9 information and resources are available online.
-
Thank you once again to the many individuals across campus who contributed to the success of the November Board of Visitors’ meetings. On Friday, November 22, the Board voted to approve the transition of the Data Science Program into a full department. Congratulations to the Data Science faculty for their achievements in teaching and research that have contributed to this well-deserved milestone.
-
Preparations are underway to finalize W&M’s transition to the SPARCS research protocol management system. If you will be using the platform to submit IRB protocol proposals, you can enroll in one of the training sessions hosted by the Research Compliance office.
-
This month brings many opportunities for celebration. I encourage you to keep an eye on events taking place across campus. In particular, consider taking time to participate in storied W&M traditions like the Yule Log Celebration and Winter Commencement.
-
This week’s shoutout goes to all faculty and staff who play a role in study abroad programs, particularly the Reves Center for International Studies team. W&M was once again named the top-ranked public university in the nation for study-abroad participation. With more than 45 faculty-led study abroad programs and internships, this work is essential to the Vision 2026 goal to expand W&M’s reach. Successful study abroad programs are a true team effort that require significant outreach, support, collaboration, and planning. Outstanding work!
