Student Highlight: Jazmine Richardson
MSIM Class of 2023 MS in BME Class of 2024 GEM Fellow
Jazmine Richardson is a first-year graduate student in the combined Master of Science in Innovation and Management and Master of Science in Biomedical Engineering (MSIM/MS) program as a GEM University Fellow and NSF FAST-TRAC Scholar here at Tufts. She is currently working on a project to develop a platform for people struggling with infertility or in the early stages of their family-building journey and for them to track their journey and leverage their information to create connections with others on similar pathways. Jazmine received a B.A. in African American Studies and a B.S. in Biotechnology, with Distinction, from Syracuse University, where she was a Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation (LSAMP) Scholar and a Ronald E. McNair Scholar.
What is an achievement (from this semester or beyond) that you're proud of? One achievement from this semester that I am proud of is my student's progress with his English skills within the Paper Airplanes program. Paper Airplanes is a nonprofit organization that matches conflict-affected individuals worldwide with personal tutors for 16-18 week sessions– and my student joined a few weeks after the program began and has grown tremendously since our first session!
What would you tell yourself as an undergraduate student, knowing what you know now as a graduate student? Knowing what I know now, the greatest advice I would give to my undergraduate self is to cherish those moments of stillness in our lives and to take the time to reflect and have moments of introspection. Life is already chaotic, and the more you know yourself and your “non-negotiables,” the more you will likely be prepared to handle any of life’s challenges.
