On Monday, August 19, our dedicated faculty and staff back will be welcomed back to campus for University Day. Your support, expertise, and commitment to our students are the cornerstones of our institution's success. As we gather to reflect on our achievements and set our goals for the year ahead, we are reminded of the vital role you play in shaping the future of Coppin. 

New Student Move In Day
For our incoming students, Thursday, August 22, will be the start of a new chapter as you move into your new home on campus. We know this transition is a significant milestone, and we are here to support you at every turn. To our returning students, your move-in on Saturday, August 24, is a welcome return to the community you have helped to build and sustain.

Coppin State Receives $287,419 Grant to Assist Child Care Providers Pursue a College Degree

Coppin State’s College of Arts and Sciences and Education has been awarded the Child Care Career and Professional Development Fund one-year grant, totaling $287,419, under the leadership of Principal Investagtor Dr. Anita Weisburger. The grant will give licensed child care providers the opportunity earn a college degree.  
Child care providers play an intricate role in the early development of children but many lack the resources needed to pursue higher education. Coppin State has a long-standing commitment to providing access to quality education. The grant surpasses the individual recipient, it contributes to the overall quality of early childhood education in our community, the city of Baltimore, and the state of Maryland.  

Coppin Repertory Theatre Awarded Newsome World Theatrical Production of the Year

Coppin Repertory Theatre, led by Dr. Garey Hyatt, visual and performing arts program coordinator, has been honored with the 'Newsome World Awards Theatrical Production of the Year' for its powerful staging of PIPELINE by Dominique Morisseau, directed by Professor Willie O. Jordan. This production shines a spotlight on the challenges faced by people of color in the school system and emphasizes the need for changes to improve education in Black communities.

Faculty and Staff Highlights 

Jade Nesbitt
Jade Nesbitt, Student Accessibility Counselor at Coppin State University, has been published as the second author of the article "No Man Is an Island: Resiliency Among Older African American Men Living with HIV" in Social Work in Public Health. This journal is distinguished for its dedication to original research, methods, policy, and practice in social work, public health, and related fields. 

Jade’s contribution to this important research showcases her commitment to advancing understanding and support for underserved communities.  

Curtis Black, adjutant faculty, received an honorable mention for Best College Professor in Baltimore from the Baltimore Sun. This recognition celebrates his remarkable teaching and the positive impact he has on his students at Coppin State University.

Joseph Amoah during the 2020 Tokyo Olympics
Coppin Alumnus Joseph Amoah, a former sprinter, served as the captain and flagbearer for Ghana at the 2024 Paris Olympics. This marked his second Olympic appearance, where he competed in the 4x100-meter relay.

President Jenkins Named as a Power 10 Honoree by Baltimore Business Journal 


President Anthony L. Jenkins was recognized as a Power 10 honoree by the Baltimore Business Journal. President Jenkins will be honored on Thursday, September 12, for his visionary leadership and transformative impact on higher education in the Greater Baltimore region.
