🗽 Celebrate July 4th in Skokie! |
Skokie 4th of July Parade |
The Skokie 4th of July Parade kicks off at noon on Thursday, July 4 from Lincoln Avenue at Oakton College, continuing north on Lincoln and east onto Oakton Street.
Lineup: Look out for the World’s Tallest Uncle Sam, the Jesse White Tumbling Team, Four Star Brass Band, and more! Check out the full parade lineup.

Skokie Fireworks Festival |
On Thursday evening, the fun moves to Niles West High School for Skokie’s Fireworks Festival! Live music and family activities begin at 6:30 p.m.; fireworks begin at dusk.
Traffic advisory: Planning to drive to the fireworks? Give yourself extra time due to ongoing IDOT construction on the Oakton Street Bridge. Review event and traffic information.

Village Hall will be closed on Thursday, July 4. Many services are available 24/7 at skokie.org.
Refuse, recycling and yard waste: This week, Thursday refuse and recycling collections will occur on Wednesday, July 3. Yard waste collections will occur on Saturday, July 6. All other collections will occur as normal.

| Reminder: Illegal Fireworks Ordinance |
Loud and unpredictable noises associated with fireworks can cause anxiety long after festivities are over.
Pet PSA: Community Animal Rescue Effort (C.A.R.E.) – along with their adorable, adoptable pets – explains how fireworks impact cats and dogs, and gives tips for pet-friendly celebrations.
Report fireworks: Skokie Police will increase patrols and enforce the illegal fireworks ordinance. Contact the non-emergency number (847-982-5900) or text 226787 and begin your message with “Skokie.” For issues posing a safety threat, call 911.

This Month: Complete the ‘Tour de Skokie’ |
This July, embark on a storefront storybook tour through Downtown Skokie as part of the first-ever Tour de Skokie featuring the book, “Ride Beside Me,” by Lucy Knisley.
Start your adventure: The tour begins at Skokie Public Library and continues over 26 stops before ending at Al’s Cycle Shop, which is celebrating 50+ years in Skokie!
Plus: Enjoy bike art on downtown sidewalks and attend a free “Tales from the Trails” event at Sketchbook Brewing on July 14.

Easy process: Complete a block party permit application to request a street closure.
Don’t forget: When completing your application, make sure to place your party in the running for the “Block Party of the Year” award, sponsored by the Village’s Human Relations Commission.

Two ways to ‘Fight the Bite’ this summer |
Standing water can act as a breeding ground for mosquitoes. The North Shore Mosquito Abatement District (NSMAD) offers two free services to “fight the bite.”

- Property inspections: Contact NSMAD to inspect your property for free, treat any breeding sources, and provide information on mosquito issues.

Tire disposal: NSMAD can help you responsibly dispose of tires – a frequent source of standing water for mosquitoes.
