A Letter from New Wond'ry Evans Family Executive Director Kevin Galloway
For the past decade, I’ve had the privilege of helping shape the Wond’ry as the Director of Making, building not only spaces but a culture where students learn by doing, creating, and collaborating. Many of you know me through that work, and it has been deeply meaningful to see how hands-on innovation has become an essential part of the Vanderbilt experience.
I’m excited to step into a new chapter as Evans Family Executive Director of the Wond’ry, recently aligned within the School of Engineering. This transition represents more than an organizational shift, it reflects a growing commitment to integrating innovation, design, and making more deeply into both the academic and co-curricular fabric of the university.
A central part of this next phase is the launch of the Innovation and Design Strategy (IDS) minor, an interdisciplinary academic program that brings together human-centered design, prototyping, and real-world problem solving. At the same time, our IMPACT program, launched last fall, continues to expand as a co-curricular pathway where students move beyond the classroom to explore, develop, and launch new ideas and ventures. Together, these programs create a powerful continuum, equipping students not only to think creatively, but to translate ideas into meaningful outcomes.
These efforts are made possible by the people and spaces that define the Wond’ry. Our makerspaces provide the environments where ideas become tangible—whether through digital fabrication, electronics, textiles, or mechanical prototyping. Just as important are the dedicated staff, mentors, and collaborators who guide students through the process of discovery, iteration, and creation.
Looking ahead, I am energized by the opportunity to build on what we have started and to expand our impact. The Wond’ry will continue to serve as a hub where disciplines intersect, where students gain confidence through making, and where bold ideas take shape.
Thank you for being part of this journey. I look forward to what we will build together in the years ahead.
