DUO Mobile App Update Notification

Duo Mobile App for Multi-factor Authentication

Duo Security - Tulane’s Multi-factor Authentication (MFA) provider used when accessing email, VPN, and most other cloud applications- has announced an important update that will affect anyone using the Duo Mobile App for Multi-factor Authentication.

To ensure users are not locked out of Tulane resources, all users should check their Duo Mobile App version.

Any Duo Mobile App that is not on version 4.85.0 or later  (4.102.0.0 is ok since it is a later version than 4.85.0) by the end of February will be unable to use the Duo Mobile App for authentication and will be blocked from any resources protected by MFA.

If the version of Duo Mobile is lower than 4.85.0 later  (4.102.0.0 is a later version than 4.85.0), then please update the app in the Apple App Store or Google Play Store by searching for Duo Mobile.

Outdated Devices:

To update the Duo Mobile App, all devices must be at or above iOS 16 or Android 11. Older devices on earlier OS versions will not be able to update the Duo Mobile App and will lose MFA functionality at the end of February.

If you need assistance updating your device or checking your version, then please contact the Service Desk or IT Security.

A job posting tells a truth. It arrives in plain language without fanfare, which is usually how important truths show up when you are actually looking.

OpenAI posted a role called Head of Preparedness.

I keep thinking about the title. It's not glamorous. Nobody puts "Head of Preparedness" on a conference lanyard to impress people. But a company building frontier models chose to fund a leader whose work centers on risk, with real authority and a real budget. That choice says someone there understands what happens when power leaves the lab and lands in the hands of people using tools in ways you did not plan for and cannot fully steer.

Innovation brings risk. Power meets real life, and real life brings users with conflicting incentives, strange edge cases, and adversaries who look for the space between intent and outcome because that is where opportunity lives. No technology gets around this. You can design a perfect engine, but you can't design the driver who decides to see what happens if they shift into reverse at seventy miles an hour. AI fits into that pattern because the pattern is about power moving through human systems.

Preparedness starts when you stop pretending you can build powerful things without someone getting hurt.

Unlocking the Future of AI

January 2026

Highlights from the Zoom AI Education Summit

Last week, Tulane had the pleasure of hosting representatives from Zoom for a two‑day Zoom AI Education Summit, and we had a great time learning alongside faculty and staff! While not everyone was able to attend, we’re excited to begin sharing some of the most valuable tools and takeaways with you over the coming weeks.

One of the standout tools we explored was Zoom’s AI Companion Lecture Summary feature. This tool allows faculty to automatically generate a clean, well‑structured summary of any recorded lecture and then easily share it in Canvas. Even better: all AI processing for these summaries happens within Tulane’s closed, secure environment. That means your course content stays protected, nothing is shared with public AI models or external services.

The AI Companion offers several formatting styles, and our favorite is the Lecture Summary option which is especially clear, organized, and helpful for students. If you’re already using Zoom to record your lectures, you can begin benefiting from this feature immediately. And if you're not currently using Zoom for in‑person classes, it’s simple to incorporate, even when every student is physically in the room.

These AI‑generated summaries can serve as powerful learning supports for students and a convenient personal archive for faculty.

Learn more about the AI Companion features, and as always reach out to the ILC with any questions or if you'd like help getting started.
