| Cicadas Begin to Surface in Skokie |
Have you heard the noise? Cicadas are starting to make their presence known around Skokie. A few quick reminders on cicadas:
|
- Cicadas don’t bite or sting, and they’ll only be around for a few weeks.
-
Avoid pesticide use. It isn’t necessary or helpful, and can harm non-target insects and wildlife.
- Consider protecting newly planted trees (less than three inches diameter) by covering their canopy with tulle netting.

Pedestrian Push Buttons Upgraded |
IDOT has upgraded existing pedestrian push buttons to be accessible pedestrian signals (APS) push buttons at several signalized intersections in Skokie.
What's that noise? Per federal guidance and IDOT specifications, locations where push buttons are separated by 10 feet or more must use “rapid tick” percussive tones to indicate when the “Walk” sign is on. This results in faster response times and fewer errors in responding to the correct signal.
