| Dear colleagues,
The semester is off to an energetic start with multiple opportunities for faculty, staff, and students to enrich their W&M experience through special events and initiatives. TribeCTF 2025, William & Mary’s annual Capture The Flag cybersecurity competition, will take place this coming weekend from September 27-28. Please encourage any students who might be interested in participating to register or visit the event website for more information. Proposals are also currently open for the 2025 Art & Science Exchange. Faculty, staff, and students are welcome to apply. Continue to keep an eye on the W&M Events page for additional happenings around campus. We are fortunate to be part of a thriving community that takes joy in learning from one another.

Here are the top “5 Things to Know” this week:
|
-
After a summer of planning, the Lemon Project and W&M Bray School Lab will join the Special Collections Research Center at Swem Library. This unites some of the university’s public history programs and expands access to collections, strengthens partnerships, and creates new opportunities for research and learning, while also affirming the university's investment in local and American history. For a timely example of public engagement with W&M scholarship, I invite you to watch the Bray School’s recent feature on CSPAN’s “Lectures in History.”
- Please refer to the message I sent last week regarding your role in digital accessibility. Consult W&M’s online hub and IT and STLI staff for additional resources and guidance.
- Nominations for W&M’s Fall 2025 Values in Action Awards are now open, recognizing employees who exemplify our values of belonging, curiosity, excellence, flourishing, integrity, respect, and service. Submissions are due no later than 5:00 p.m. on Monday, October 13.
-
The William & Mary Washington Center is now accepting faculty proposals to teach in our Study in DC programs for the 2026-2027 academic year. This is an opportunity to bring your course to Washington, D.C., engage students in applied learning, and connect classroom content with the nation’s capital. The RFP is now open and you may submit your proposal by October 20. Please contact Erin Battle at eebattle@wm.edu with any questions.
- This week’s shoutout goes to the entirety of the College of Arts & Sciences, who marked their official new name with a celebration at the end of last week. This milestone reflects both the strength of their legacy as well as the power of the arts and sciences to unite and inspire generations of W&M students to come. Congratulations!
