Advancing Campus Culture at Duke |
As Duke continues to advance its commitment to fostering a vibrant and inclusive campus culture, the Campus Experience and Culture Advisory Council (CECAC) will play a central role in guiding these efforts. The council is composed of leaders from across the university who bring a wide range of experiences, backgrounds, and perspectives to inform this work.
Additional information about CECAC, its subcommittees, and past and future iterations of the Campus Culture Survey is available on the Duke Campus Culture website.

2026 Dialogue Across Difference: Effective Engagement for Building Understanding |
The Office for Institutional Equity implemented and is evaluating a pilot effort to engage dialogic approaches across the enterprise. The inaugural cohort series, Dialogue Across Difference: Effective Engagement for Building Understanding, was sponsored by The Provost's Initiative on Pluralism, Free Inquiry and Belonging.
The pilot cohort met during the spring semester for 5 half-day training and practice sessions. During these sessions, cohort members learned foundational frameworks, developed core skills, and deepened understanding about effective ways to apply dialogue as a technique for engaging across difference and diffusing/preventing conflict. Members of this pilot program were asked to propose new efforts to create generative dialogic approaches within our community. During the fall, they will lead an array of dialogue projects to diffuse this innovation throughout Duke. Participants will stay connected through a community of practice to receive and offer support for project implementation. Stay tuned for more information about these projects and the impact of this effort on our Duke community.
OIE is pleased to announce the continuation of our Dialogue Series with another cohort launching in the fall. For information on how to participate in the Fall 2026 cohort, please email Amanda Gonzalez at amanda.gonzalez@duke.edu.

Duke Equity Network (DEN) |
The Duke Equity Network (DEN) convenes twice a year to leaders who are dedicated to building an inclusive and welcoming environment at Duke, and to share innovative approaches to advancing equity. This spring’s meeting featured a panel with Syretta Hill, Eliza Matthew, and Mina Silberberg, who discussed how Duke Community Affairs partners with the Durham community on key initiatives and the impact of these collaborations, followed by a thoughtful discussion with attendees. To learn more about Duke Community Affairs (DCA), visit the DCA website.

The OIE Liaison Program convened this semester to strengthen connections and highlight the program’s role in supporting Duke community members and addressing concerns related to discrimination, harassment, and related misconduct. The event featured liaison testimonials from Camille Jackson, Heather Ryan, and John Klingensmith, who shared insights from their experiences in the program. Attendees also participated in a fireside chat welcoming Sharon Fernandes Gooding and a “Meet an OIE Team Member” session, offering opportunities to connect with OIE staff and learn more about their work.
