It's National Ice Cream Month!

 
  • July, named after Julius Caesar, is a month full of milestones and celebrations. Notable events include the US Independence Day on July 4th and the moon landing on July 20th. It's also a time to enjoy the "dog days of summer" and take advantage of outdoor activities. July is famous for celebrating historical milestones, as well as enjoying hot dogs and ice cream, and it is designated as both National Hot Dog Month and National Ice Cream Month. Who knew?
  • Back-to-school time is just around the corner!  Fall courses start on August 25th;  ensure your travel plans have you arriving back in St. Louis before this date.  Scroll down for a special section, Olin Graduate Students' Back-to-School Resources!
  • Mark your calendars-On July 15th at 10:00 a.m. (CST), Graduate students can begin purchasing parking passes for the Danforth Campus on the Parking Portal.  Graduate students can also begin to register for their FREE U-Pass!  Detailed information, including types of permits and pricing, is available online through the Parking and Transportation website.
  • Incoming international students interested in connecting virtually with other new professional and graduate students can register to participate in an OISE-sponsored event on July 18th at 8:00 am (CST).  Please register to participate in this informative chat, titled Arriving in the U.S., which provides tips and tricks for travel and encourages students to engage with and explore their new city and school.
  • Other OISE-sponsored events for international students can be found online with OISE (Office for International Student Engagement).
  • The All-Campus Graduate and Professional Student Welcome and Fair is on August 17th from 4:00 to 5:30 p.m. in the Danforth Athletic Complex.  Representatives from 30+ university resources will be on hand to share information on offerings designed to support your academic, personal, and professional development.   
  • The Tech Den has a new name: Student Technology Services (STS).  They also have a new, more accessible location.  STS is now located on the first floor of the Danforth University Center (DUC).  Students requiring assistance with software and laptop recommendations can visit the online resources, contact STS, or ask how they can help.

Sneha has made many friends during her brief time at Olin. She often participates in student events like Diwali and supports her classmates during recognition moments such as commencement or simply shares a last-minute meal with her Olin family. Joe is that guy— you know the type— he is rarely seen without a big, broad smile! And it's genuine! Just ask his classmates. Coming from the East, Joe moved west to Notre Dame for college, and then, while others accepted offers from prominent firms and high salaries, Joe chose to spend some time serving others. With the same thoughtful consideration that led him to accept the ACE fellowship, Joe chose Olin for his next journey. Learn more about Joe and his path to WashU.

With an undergraduate degree in Economics and a post-baccalaureate in premedical studies, Charlene pivoted to the Olin MBA program when she realized her true passion was working with numbers and data. Presently working as a grant analyst, she still finds time between classes, work, and staying fit to create art and has a deep appreciation for SLO. Charlene is also a regular attendee at all Professional MBA events. Charlene is as reliable as she is well-rounded and crazy talented! Olin Cares aims to strengthen our student body's culture of giving back, enabling us to make a lasting impact both on campus and in the broader St. Louis community.  

 

Timothy and Gwynnie share a few common interests, one of which is, of course, the internal desire to learn by exploring. The other is to highlight opportunities within the STL community and beyond that enable students and themselves to engage, build, and support non-profits, the environment, and small businesses.  Learn more about Timothy and Gwynnie and their goals for Olin Cares!

Back-to-School Resources for Olin Students

 

Today, we are halfway through July. Please use this checklist to ensure you are ready for fall. Don't be left behind!

  • Important! Currently, the dates for half-semester  Half-A and Half-B courses in Workday are posted incorrectly. The actual dates are accurate on the GPO Student Affairs Calendar and in your respective Canvas courses.

  • Mandatory!  The Fall Health Insurance waiver link is available from July 1st through September 5th for students entering the fall semester at WashU. Students can apply for a waiver once they have received their WashU Key.  The waiver process MUST be completed by September 5th. This is a strict deadline; no exceptions will be made. All full-time students will be automatically enrolled in the University-wide health insurance plan, unless a waiver is granted. All international students are required to participate in the University-wide health insurance plan . Learn more online.  
  • The campus-wide Bulletin has been updated! Olin graduate students can now view the program's curricular requirements online.

Olin Happenings & Opportunities

 

  • Professional MBA students are invited to attend the next Power Lunch and Learn Series on July 24th, led by Lauren Herring, CEO of The Impact Group, an outplacement and coaching firm.  This is a virtual event. Learn more and register to attend.
  • Save the date!  The third annual Olin Graduate Student Resource Fair will take place on Tuesday, August 26th.  Campus partners will host tables, provide an assortment of local food, a barista, and more at the fair!
  • Students participating in summer internships with MGT 551E reflect on their experiences and offer some advice!  Take a look, and a few office snaps are included.

Campus Resources for Graduate Students

 

  • Student Health Services will remain open through the summer.  
  • New to WashU! Graduate and Professional Student Welcome, Sunday, August 17th at 3:00 pm in Graham Chapel, Danforth Campus.
  • New to WashU! Danforth Campus Walking Tours. August 18-22nd, Daily at 9:00 am and 3:00 pm.  The tours depart from the Graduate Center.
  • The Graduate Center presents: Reorientation Socials each Monday, 4-5 pm, in the Graduate Center throughout the Fall semester.
  • The Graduate Center is open throughout the summer. Please view the updated summer hours online.
  • Bank of America will be on campus every Thursday of August to help students open bank accounts with Bank of America.  Watch the OISE website for dates and locations.
