Beyond the Workplace: Labor and Dementia in Black Communities
February 13 | 5:30 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. Tawes Ballroom
Join us for a screening of "Remember Me: Dementia in the African American Community" followed by a panel discussion. The award-winning documentary, written and directed by C. Nathaniel Brown, sheds light on the inpact that dementia has on the African American Community and provides vital information that stimulares conversations. Following the documentary, engage in an insightful dialogue session with dementia experts and support organizations.

A Legacy of Resilience: Honoring Carter G. Woodson and 125 Years of Coppin State
February 17 | 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. Talon Center, Room 218
This panel discussion will honor Coppin State University's 125th anniversary and explore the diverse experiences of Black professionals from the 1960s, 1970s, 1980s, 1990s, 2000s, 2010s, and 2020s. Panelists will share their career journeys, contributions to labor, and their perspectives on the future of Black labor representation. The event will also highlight the role of Coppin State University in shaping the careers of these alumni, and explore the development of Black history education, the significance of preserving Black heritage, and the ongoing fight for racial justice. Tochi Iwuji, a recent Coppin State University graduate, proudly represented the university at the American Chemical Society (ACS) National Conference in New Orleans, Louisiana. During the event, held in March 2024, she presented her research titled "Investigation of Thermal & Rheological Properties of PDMS for Medical Device Applications."
Attending the world’s largest chemistry conference alongside more than 16,000 researchers, students, industry professionals, and government representatives, Iwuji made an impressive debut on the national stage. She exemplifies Coppin’s commitment to academic excellence and research innovation.
Her participation continues to inspire current students, demonstrating the university’s impact in preparing scholars for prestigious opportunities in STEM.

Ihsan Mujahid, Assistant Dean of Student Life at Coppin State University, was honored with the Endless Reign Award at the inaugural Mister and Miss HBCU Competition in Charlotte, North Carolina on January 25, 2025. This award recognizes her years of dedication to mentoring and developing HBCU Royalty.
"It is good to know that the person that is advising the Royal Court is a former Queen that is being recognized for the work I've continued to do with HBCU Royalty," said Mujahid. "I have advised the CSU Royal Court for years. Out of 6 Mister HBCU competitions, 3 Mister Coppins have made Top Ten under my advisement and coaching."

Join us on Wednesday, February 19 in the Talon Center, Main Dining Hall for Coppin Chopped - Soul of Labor: A Culinary Tribute to African American Workers hosted by the African American History Committee, Thompson Hospitality, and Business Services.
Celebrate 125 years of Coppin State University with a one-of-a-kind culinary experience! This year's Coppin Chopped competition will challenge six teams to cook, create, and curate dishes inspired by the rich history of Black labor and its impact on American society.
