UW-Whitewater’s December 2024 commencement ceremony was held Saturday at the Williams Center. Proud family, friends, administrators, and faculty cheered and recognized more than 800 graduates.

Three from UW-Whitewater earn conference scholar-athlete awards
|
Three student-athletes at UW-Whitewater were named Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Scholar-Athletes in their respective sports for the fall 2024 season.

| UW-Whitewater students recognized for serving SUFAC
|
Eight students at UW-Whitewater serve on the university's Segregated University Fee Allocation Committee (SUFAC), a committee that makes key decisions on the allocation of funding to different groups and initiatives on campus.

| UW-Whitewater students recognized for completing CPR training
|
A total of 70 students at UW-Whitewater completed the CPR/AED training course through the university's police department during the fall 2024 semester.

Kudos to faculty and undergraduate students in UW-Whitewater’s department of sociology, criminology, and anthropology, who had a strong presence at the Wisconsin Sociological Association Conference on Nov. 1. Professor Leda Kanellakou was awarded the William Sewell Outstanding Scholarship Award, and associate professor Michael Friedson earned the Hans O. Mauksch Outstanding Teacher Award. Four Warhawk students presented at the conference, and Peter Hansen, a criminology major from Watertown, won the 2024 Student Paper Award for his theoretical paper. Kudos to Hairi, assistant professor of computer science, who co-authored “Sample and Communication Efficient Fully Decentralized MARL Policy Evaluation via a New Approach: Local TD Update.” The paper was presented at AAMAS 2024 in New Zealand. AAMAS, the largest and most influential conference on agents and multi-agent systems, highlights this innovative work that improves decentralized multi-agent reinforcement learning (MARL) with reduced sample and communication needs. Rock County nursing program builds infrastructure, skills

At UW-Whitewater’s Rock County campus, construction is complete on two state-of-the-art spaces where the next generation of students will earn a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Edgewood College, the result of a collaborative nursing degree program. Foster Boom, a chemistry major from Pleasant Prairie, and Steven Girard, associate professor of chemistry, recently teamed up at UW-Whitewater to help Girard file a Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) patent application through WiSys.
