Our hearts go out to all impacted by the recent fires in the Los Angeles area. If you are aware of a student who has financial needs due to this or any other crisis, please share the Support Our Spartans (SOS) Fund financial assistance application with them. And, if so moved, donate to this fund to help current students in need.
February may be the shortest month on the calendar, but it can feel the longest. It is still cold, dark and weeks away from spring break. This is a great time to remind your student to go to an IM Building and check out the classes, equipment or teams (IM and Club Sports), cheer on a Spartan winter sports team, maybe catch a show at Wharton Center (students can buy 2 reduced-price tickets for every show!), Abrams Planetarium, or an exhibit at the MSU Museum or Broad Museum. And with more than 1,000 student organizations, there’s something for everyone at MSU!
February also brings remembrances: The events and activities planned for Feb. 13, 2025, provide an opportunity for members of the MSU community, in the way that makes the most sense for them, to reflect, grieve and honor those we lost, those injured and all impacted by the tragedy that occurred on our campus Feb. 13, 2023. We validate and respect that everyone in our community will have various reactions to the anniversary, as each person remains on their own individual journey. Information about the opportunities to remember in community or through individual practices has been made available to students via email but will not be pushed through social media sites. This is so students can choose when to access the information rather than be surprised by an unanticipated feed post. Please remind your student to regularly check their MSU email. Note: most classes will not be held Feb. 13 and will resume Feb. 14, but there will be no assignments or exams due either day.
Take care,
Laurin

2025-26 Housing Sign-Up for Current First Year Students
As the 2025-26 Housing Sign-Up at MSU approaches, we want to help you and your student prepare. Please review the key details below and be sure to check the Second-Year Sign-Up webpage for the latest updates.
Starting February 3, your student's 2025-26 Housing Contract will be available for signature in their My Housing account. Be sure it’s signed by March 11 to receive a sign-up window.
In mid-March, once the contract is signed, your student will be randomly assigned a 24-hour window to select available housing.

If your student wants to live with specific roommates or suitemates, they should create a roommate group before their selection window opens.

Spring Break
It's hard to believe that spring break is just around the corner! If your student is heading off campus for the break, we wish them safe travels. However, for those choosing to stay on campus, whether for the entire break or part of it, rest assured that they are free to do so without any additional steps.
Halls will require card access for entry, and resident assistants (RAs) will be on duty from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. The primary service centers in each neighborhood will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Visit liveon.msu.edu/servicecenters for open locations. For further questions about spring break operations, contact the Housing Assignments Office at 517-884-5483 or liveon@msu.edu. Safe travels to those heading off campus!

Reminders from the Office of Financial Aid
The 2025-26 FAFSA is still available at fafsa.gov. It is recommended students complete this simple application to be considered for a number of federal, state and MSU scholarship opportunities. Should students find they need to accept federal student loans later in the year, having the FAFSA completed makes accepting these loans simple.
Financial aid packages for the 2025-26 school year will be available in your student's financial aid portal mid-February.
