What Happened to Oklahoma Voters?

by Terri Watkins
What happened to Oklahoma voters this primary and runoff elections? It was one of the lowest if not the lowest in Oklahoma history. There are 2.3 million registered voters in the state. It doesn’t matter if you are talking Republicans or Democrats or Independents. People did not go the polls. They didn’t mail in their ballots or even show up for early voting. Women outnumber men when it come to registering to vote but the women didn’t show up either.

If you are thinking, it’s because it was a runoff election. The primary wasn’t much better. The largest numbers were for the Governor, US Senator and very unusually the State Auditor but it was the second name on the ballot.

This all happens in a year when Oklahomans will only be voting on 31 out of a 101 House legislative seats. It wasn’t because we only vote on a few races, no, all 101 seats were up for election but in most of the races, nobody challenged the incumbent.  READ MORE

Advertising Space Available

Advertising support makes it possible for Club 29 to publish news and information critical to our members, such as meeting notices, speaker schedules, and other crucial communications. Your message would be seen by our community's most prominent leaders and gain incredible exposure on the world wide web. The advertising revenue pays for the software we use to design and distribute the newsletters as well as Club 29's website hosting, so your support is important to all members.
There are a few ad spaces available, but filling them is very important for our club’s member communications. If you are interested, you may find more information here or call the Rotary office.

Nominating Committee Seeks Candidates

The Nominating committee has begun its work to select candidates to appear on the ballot in November for officers and directors for the 2023-2024 Rotary year when Lesli Massad will be President. The committee is carefully considering a pool of potential candidates who have been engaged club members and demonstrated an interest in leadership in the club. However, to ensure that we are making our selection from the deepest pool of qualified candidates, we would welcome anyone interested in serving to reach out.
If you are interested in being considered for a position on the ballot, please let Megan know by email, no later than 5:00 pm on September 20. To be eligible, a club member must have been a member of Club 29 for at least three years at the time of the vote in November.

Sincerely,
Ellen Fleming - Chair
Nominating Committee
