Big Day for Discovery: Student Showcase at Discovery Day
Have you ever wondered what is possible when you participate in undergraduate research? Find out for yourself during Discovery Day 2024, the University of Tennessee’s second-largest student showcase!
On Tuesday, September 24, 2024, Hodges Library will be packed with two sessions and two floors of student posters sharing the impacts that undergraduate researchers are already making on the world through their research.

URF Travel Grants for Conference Presentations
The grants vary by location:
- Up to $300 for in-state conferences
- $500 for national conferences
- $800 for international conferences
- $100 for virtual conference registration.
Apply by October 1st, 2024 for travel between July 1 - Sept. 30, 2024.

Fund your Study/Internship Abroad with the Gilman Scholarship
The Gilman Scholarship is a US State Department-funded program to support Pell Grant recipients with up to $5,000 toward their study/internship abroad costs.
This scholarship aims to provide recipients with the skills necessary to promote national security and economic prosperity. An additional award of up to $3,000 is available for students studying a critical need language while abroad. Dependents (children and spouses) of active-duty military should be aware of the Gilman-McCain Scholarship.
The deadline to apply for the Gilman is Thursday, October 10, 2024. To learn more and gain access to application resources and staff support, submit a Gilman interest form HERE.

FAO Schwarz Fellowship for Social Impact
Looking to catalyze your impact on society and join the next generation of leaders for social change? Consider applying for the FAO Schwarz Fellowships in Social Impact. This two-year transformative opportunity will position fellows to work within social service organizations while becoming leaders themselves through professional development, mentorship, and alumni support.
Fellowships are paid, based in Boston, New York City, or Philadelphia.

Calling All Juniors: Public Service Fellowship Opens in September
Are you a rising junior interested in a future in public policy, public administration, or international affairs? Apply for the Public Policy and International Affairs Program (PPIA)’s Junior Summer Institute (JSI)!
The JSI is a rigorous academic, fully-funded summer fellowship program that prepares future leaders in the public service sector to obtain a graduate or professional degree related to public service. Fellows will study over the summer at one of seven US college campuses including Carnegie Mellon, Princeton, and Harvard.

Graduate Research Fellowship Program for STEM students
If you would like NSF GRFP application support from our staff, please first complete our brief GRFP Declaration of Intent. Once we receive your intent form, we will invite you to our NSF GRFPCanvas site, where you will find valuable application resources, as well as workshop information and a portal to submit draft materials for our staff to review.
URF will be hosting an NSF GRFP Application Workshop open to all students (at any stage in the application process) from 1 p.m.-2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, September 4th on zoom. All students who fill out an interest form will receive the zoom link.
