Happy Black History Month! This email newsletter includes different ways to celebrate the significance of Black History Month and opportunities for ongoing education. I encourage everyone in our community to take time to celebrate through learning, open dialogue, and more.
As we celebrate, we also acknowledge the gap between our current state and where we aspire to be with respect to diversity. Each month, this Tepper Together newsletter will highlight different events and resources, and spotlight members of our community.
If you have questions or concerns, I welcome your input.
Together, we can achieve our mission of a diverse, equitable, and inclusive community, where everyone has a voice and feels a sense of belonging.

February Is Black History Month |
|
|
Every February, and throughout the year, we celebrate the achievements of African Americans and their central role in U.S. history, as well as within our own communities.
This month we will be sharing the stories and experiences of our Tepper School community members as a way to champion and celebrate their achievements, as well as ways for all members of our community to get involved and celebrate.

Welcome David Major, Associate Dean of DEI&B |
David Major joined the Tepper School on Feb. 1 as the inaugural Associate Dean of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging.
“I’m a proud CMU alum and I'm thrilled to be back, not as a student this time, but at the front of the classroom; to be a catalyst for inclusion and belonging for all here at the Tepper School," Major said.
"I'm also excited for our Tepper Together initiative and our goal of ensuring a community of diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging. That's powerful. It's real, and I believe it's achievable.”
"I've been hearing Maya Angelou's voice in my ear as I begin this new role, and I think the Tepper Together community will be inspired by it as well," he added.
From Maya Angelou's inaugural poetry reading in 1993, a quote from "On the Pulse of the Morning":
