As CC is becoming increasingly known for both its liberal arts education and strong science program, the Student Collaborative Research (SCoRe) program is thriving, highlighting the success CC students, alumni, and faculty are having in research.

“SCoRe is designed to holistically support Colorado College’s mission, centered around the development of habits of intellect and imagination,” says Lisa Schwartz, Assistant Director of Grants, Research, and Fellowships in the Career Center. “These meaningful research experiences allow students to learn alongside mentors as they explore new techniques, methods, and perspectives relevant to their fields. Student contributions offer unique viewpoints that often lead to publication and presentation with their faculty mentors.”

In a world increasingly affected by technology, CC students are learning new ways to incorporate the values of a liberal arts education in developing and implementing technology to better the world. One example of this can be found in the popular Computer Science course Accessible User Interfaces, taught by Dr. Varsha Koushik.

“The class is timely and important, as access becomes even more important as technology drives our world,” says Koushik. “We need to think about how we can empower users and design systems that cater to their abilities.”

Get ready! From July 18-26, CC will be hosting the Department of Defense Warrior Games on campus! This incredible event will bring over 200 wounded, ill, and injured active-duty and veteran service members, along with their families, friends, coaches, and supporters from all over the globe. For eight action-packed days, these inspiring athletes will compete in adaptive sports like wheelchair basketball, sitting volleyball, archery, cycling, and swimming, showcasing their amazing resilience and strength.

With over 2,000 additional people expected on campus each day during the Games, campus will be busier than usual. Please plan for significantly impacted parking and allow extra time to get to some buildings. For all the details on what to expect, be sure to visit our Warrior Games at CC webpage.

Also, be sure to mark your calendars for Tuesday, Jul. 22 because it's CC Day at the Warrior Games! Wear your favorite CC gear, bring your family and friends, and come help us cheer on these phenomenal athletes. In addition to the competitions, you'll find entertainment and activities for all ages, plus the Josh & John’s Scoop Bus will be on hand, offering FREE ice cream for the first 100 CC ID holders!

Jim Rosenthal ’70 is the CEO of Tex-Air Filters and the co-creator of the Corsi-Rosenthal Box – a low-cost, do-it-yourself air filter made from air filters and a box fan.

When he and his co-developer, Dr. Richard Corsi, Dean of Engineering at the University of California, Davis, introduced their concept during the height of the Covid-19 Pandemic, there were two things they were certain of: they wanted to help and they would keep the concept and design open-source.
