Teacher of the Month - April 2023
In cooperation with the Mayor's office and City Council, the Rotary Club of Okla. City recognizes an outstanding teacher in our community.
Kim King has been a Special Education Teacher since 1997, serving Pre K-5th grade students with specials need at the same elementary school, formerly Western Village and currently Stanley Hupfeld Academy, for the past 26 years.
Kim has been recognized for her teaching skills working with some of Oklahoma City’s most challenged students and she has served as a resource and advocate for students throughout the years. She has continued to seek specialized training and certifications to assist her with meeting the needs of her students.
Kim’s teaching style is based on integration of the arts where students engage in the learning process through the use of movement, art, poetry, and expression in a non‑traditional learning environment to help them retain and recall information. This teaching style has allowed her students to consistently meet the goals of their individualized education plans.
She has impacted the community of Western Village as she has been a parent, PTA member, teacher and a founding contributor to the first Elementary Charter School in Oklahoma City when Western Village Elementary converted to a public charter school.
Her impact in the community is long lasting as she has built relationships and laid foundations for many students to become productive contributors to society. Kim’s passion is to see the academic and social growth of her students—this is the best reward or gift a person can receive.
Kim has 3 beautiful grandchildren, and has lent her teaching skills to both Sunday school and vacation bible school at Prospect Baptist Church, where she has been a long time member.
Kim was presented with a certificate of recognition as well as a $500 gift from the Rotary Club 29 Foundation AND a $500 gift from the Oklahoma City Public Schools Foundation in partnership with The Inasmuch Foundation.
Congratulations, Kim!
