Back to School 2024
Here at ejazzlines, Jazz Lines Publications, & Walrus Music Publishing we are the very last people who will ever suggest rushing your summer! But as the inevitable end to another summer comes-alas, too soon-we'd like to focus this newsletter on a lot of the new music from 2024 that we think you might really enjoy using this coming school year.
2024 New Issues from Alfred, Hal Leonard, Kendor, & Baker's Jazz: Some of the best music for the educational market is published by Alfred Publishing, Hal Leonard, Kendor Music, & Baker's Jazz & More. We offer their 2024 new issues, with brand new options from Gordon Goodwin, Alan Baylock, Kris Berg, Paul Baker, Rick Hirsch, Ellen Rowe, Greg Yasinitsky & many more. This selection of charts has items from different styles/difficulty levels, originals & standards, etc.; please click here for 2024 Alfred, here for 2024 Hal Leonard, here for 2024 Kendor, & here for 2024 Baker's Jazz.
Brent Wallarab's The Gennett Suite is not a re-creation of the classic 1920s Gennett recordings made by artists such as Jelly Roll Morton & Bix Beiderbecke. Wallarab instead has used these landmark Gennett solos & compositions as seeds, creating a thriving new landscape of music right at home in the contemporary world, but well-marked with signposts pointing to the origins of our present moment. A brilliant work using such classic compositions as 'Dippermouth Blues,' 'Wolverine Blues,' and 'Stardust,' the Buselli-Wallarab Jazz Orchestra reimagines these legendary themes & personages for a new century-this is a singular way to introduce classic American music to new generations in a compelling modern manner. Highly recommended.
Spotlight on Women Composers/Arrangers: We proudly offer a category focused on the great women of the jazz world. The music in this category offers a fabulous way to present to your students the work of pioneers like Mary Lou Williams, Melba Liston, & Toshiko Akiyoshi, as well as the best working today like Ellen Rowe, Patty Darling, Jennifer Wharton, Ayn Inserto, Michele Fernández, Sherisse Rogers, & many more.
Specially-Priced Multi-Chart Sets: This category is both a budget-stretcher & a unique way of teaching the music of some of jazz's greatest creators in a new in-depth manner. Groups of arrangements from one theme, one artist, one arranger, or even from one record (some forming the complete album), these sets have become invaluable tools. Please click here to view them.
Jazz Lines Publications 2024 Highlights (So far!):
-The Count Basie Orchestra is about the very best from which to learn just how a tight, swinging big band should sound. In 2024 we present Ernie Wilkins's 'Corner Pocket' and Sammy Nestico's 'The Hayburner'. Jimmy Mundy's arrangement of 'Ol' Man River' may not be quite as well known, but it is intense, wild fun--& highly challenging.
-The Glenn Miller Orchestra: The latest in our ever-growing Glenn Miller Orchestra Holiday Series is 'A String of Carols', a medley written by Dave Wolpe.
-Ella Fitzgerald, Frank Sinatra, Rob McConnell, Helen O'Connell, Dave Pell, Terry Gibbs, Gerry Mulligan, Johnny Mercer, Bob Florence, Percy Faith, & Bob Brookmeyer are all among the others whose music represents 2024 Jazz Lines Publications new releases. For the best selection of music released this year by us & others, we heartily recommend taking a browse through the earlier 2024 new charts from January through June in our ejazzlines 2024 New Arrangements Pages.
Finally, here are some 2024 highlights that we have available from two of the world's most important music publishers:

Presenting the Jazz at Lincoln Center 2024 Essentially Ellington Arrangements
In association with Jazz at Lincoln Center, we present the eight arrangement catalog of the 2024 Essentially Ellington competition, which was won by our friend Julius Tolentino & his Newark Academy Band from our hometown of Livingston, NJ. Congrats again Julius-you sir are exceptionally deserving of this high honor!
This is a historic collection of some lesser-known Ellington music. All of the charts are difficult, & there are six swing along with one each in ballad & Afro-rumba styles.
Please note that the Strayhorn arrangement of 'Boo-Dah' is the same chart that Jazz Lines Publications has previously published.
