One of the goals of the Department of Civil, Environmental and Ocean Engineering's Center for Student Success is to consolidate the emails and announcements sent to students. Environmental Engineering Field Inspector, WSP |
WSP is currently hiring an Environmental Field Inspector in their Valhalla, NY office. Duties include: providing oversight of investigation and remediation activities, preparing daily activity reports, overseeing and logging soil borings and monitoring wells, conducting multimedia environmental sampling and monitoring and interpreting the results, and performing project research and data gathering. Professional Ethics in Engineering Seminar
|
Description: This seminar explores the important role of ethical principles in guiding engineers' decisions and actions. It emphasizes the importance of integrity, accountability, and public safety in professional practice. Participants will discuss moral dilemmas, and the responsibilities engineers have to society, their profession, and the environment. The seminar aims to equip students with the tools and frameworks needed to navigate complex ethical challenges in their future careers.

Co-Op Information Session
|
Description: A representative from the Office of Graduate Academics and Student Success will discuss the benefits of the graduate cooperative education program, eligibility and qualifications, program requirements, step-by-step process and more.

Description: Attendees will be traveling to Astoria, NY via bus and will have the opportunity to weld, flame-cut, use bolting stations, tie rebar, and climb a column. The tour runs approx. two hours and students can expect brief remarks covering what ironworkers do and safety information before the activities begin. This is a great opportunity to learn first hand how industry works closely with steel used to rebuild infrastructure.

Estimated Return Time: 2:30 pm. Pizza will be served upon arrival back to campus.

Sustainability Seminar Series
|
The Hugo Neu Corporation Sustainability Seminar Series, organized by the MS program in Sustainability Management, is an effort to connect students to professionals in the field of sustainability. This is a weekly series sponsored by Hugo Neu Corporation and jointly sponsored by Geosyntec Consultants. Cosponsors are Brown and Caldwell, Lozier Inc., The Catalyst Group, and H2M Architects and Engineers. The seminars happen every Tuesday between 5-6pm via Zoom. Erfan Amini, ocean engineering doctoral student, received the Student Educational Award by American Shore and Beach Preservation Association (ASBPA). This award is given annually to a student who, through his or her research, is furthering the state of science of coastal systems as it relates to the goals and mission of the ASBPA. He is advised by Prof. Reza Marsooli.

David Plaza, ocean engineering doctoral student, received the Donald L. Blount Memorial Scholarship from the Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers (SNAME). This scholarship will support his pursuit of research in the field. He is advised by Prof. Raju Datla.
|
Sanika Tarkar, construction engineering and management masters student, was awarded the Jerome Frommer Scholarship, issued through the Utilities and Transportation Contractors Association, to provide New Jersey students with the opportunity to advance their studies in the field of construction.
