SPOTLIGHT:  AN AWARD-WINNING DISTRICT SPEAKS

Bossier Schools is on the receiving end of the Rising Star Award from Louisiana Clean Fuels (LCF) for the district’s tireless efforts to reduce petroleum consumption and emissions. Bossier Schools operates 25 propane buses.

“These buses offer many of the same environmental benefits of electric buses, but at a fraction of the cost,” explained Dave Hadden, Director of Bossier Schools’ Transportation Department.

“Propane buses are able to travel farther, refuel more quickly and even have a smaller carbon footprint. So, what does this mean? A clean, quiet ride for students and a significant cost savings for our school district.”

PROPANE ENGINES = LOWER LIFETIME COSTS  

DISTRICTS SAVE BIG ON THE THREE “Fs”  

A new article in Fleet Owner magazine provides a side-by-side comparison of propane vs. diesel. The upshot:  propane offers several compelling advantages:  greater power, more uptime, fueling control, and more.

The article also outlines how fleets — including schools — save big on the three “Fs”:  

FUEL    Propane autogas is consistently less expensive than diesel, even as fuel prices fluctuate.

FLUIDS    New diesel technology comes with an added inconvenience:  emissions fluid to purchase, store, and change. Diesel also requires more oil by volume than propane engines. Bottom line: propane autogas provides reliable performance without additional fluids.

FILTERS    To meet emissions requirements, new diesel technology requires diesel particulate filters that must be cleaned every 200,000 miles ... an expense piled on top of additional upfront costs.
