Youth Protection Program
Policy Announcement
Risk Management is pleased to announce that the
Youth Protection for Children Under 18 (Policy Stat ID: 13764066) has been approved and is available under the
Sacramento State Policy Library. The policy was developed by Risk Management Services following the Chancellors' Office guidance and feedback from the campus administrators, campus staff, and the faculty senate.
Risk Management encourages everyone to become familiar with this policy and its procedures as it is incumbent upon all of us to safeguard and promote the welfare of youth involved in our campus programs or whom we interact with (on or off campus, or virtually).
All University departments and auxiliaries, employees, faculty, coaches and assistants, students, and volunteers with regular or direct contact with youth must complete the following:
- Youth Protection Program Registration: The responsible person for a University program hosting or involving youth must register for the program by completing the Minors on Campus Program or Activity Registration.
- Background Check: identifying and documenting all youth program staff and volunteers, and ensuring they pass a background check before the program start date per CSU Technical Letter HR 2017-17.
- Training: Training shall be completed annually or before program staff and volunteers begin working with youth. The training matrix provides guidance on what trainings are required.
Third-Party or Co-Sponsored Programs
Third-party sponsors of youth programs taking place on a property operated or controlled by the University, or rented through University Space Management are responsible for registering the program by completing the
Minors on Campus-Program or Activity Registration.
Third-Party sponsors of youth programs are also responsible for:
- Procuring and reviewing background checks for their own staff and volunteers.
- Conducting training consistent with CSUS Risk Management requirements. Our campus does not provide online training for outside third-party organizations, but organizations may review the following guide to working with minors or utilize The Office of Child Abuse Prevention's free online training.
- All outside third-party organizations must carry the University's required insurance coverage, including Abuse and Molestation (SAM) coverage.
