Service and Joy

This summer, children of all ages made a real difference in people’s lives.

In June, our 1st – 3rd graders made goodie boxes for 10 folks in our church who needed some special love. In July, our 4th and 5th grade children made 10 more boxes of goodies for more people in our church.

In July, the whole church packed 20,000 meals for Rise Against Hunger. Those meals go around the world, so people do not starve.

In August, in our intergenerational Sunday School time, we…..

o   Put together 100 school bags for Presbyterian Disaster Assistance

o   Put together 100 hygiene bags for Presbyterian Disaster Assistance

o   Put together 50 bags for those experiencing homelessness, and they have all been delivered to folks who needed them,

o   Put together 125 food bags for Crieve Hall School.

One of my deep joys is knowing that our children at Westminster are learning from this beautiful church family that they can make a difference in people’s lives. They can share love in all kinds of great ways.

Just as stones were used in ancient times by the side of a road to show the distance in miles to a given place, we are using milestones to mark a child’s learning and growth in the Christian faith. We want to give both children and parents concrete tools as they grow and learn together in their faith journey.

Most Milestones are during Sunday School, with parents and children learning together. It is always in a center model, so parents and children can move at their own pace. It is always okay to work together with friends as well. There is no grade, just learning.

2nd Grade Milestone - Prayer - Sunday, November 22.

The second grade children and parents will come to a fun, interactive workshop on prayer. We will remember together that there are so many ways to pray and God always listens.

Children's Sabbath- Sunday, November 8  

Our fourth and fifth grade children will lead the liturgy at both the 8:30 and 11:00 services. They may also usher if they do not want a speaking part. The children's choirs will lead the music at 11. Please encourage your child to join us.

This year, we have created a monthly packet filled with all sorts of things to help your child learn more about Jesus and go on a fun-filled Faith Journey. We are calling it our Snail Mail Club.
