9 October 2019
|
Good Evening,
Tomorrow, we'll be back with more news!
On October 13, there will be a benefit held for Steve "Tiny" Michaels, as he recovers from surgery and has ongoing medical expenses. The benefit will be held at the Mizpah Shrine Center, 1005 Memorial Way, Fort Wayne, Indiana. Entertainment will include Mike Conley, Pat Godwin, Heywood Banks, and others. A silent auction will also be held. Friends have also created a GoFundMe.
Four Hoosier broadcasters will become members of the Indiana Broadcast Pioneers Richard M. Fairbanks Hall of Fame later this month. We profiled two in our last IRW.
Linda Lupear graduated from Butler University. She became one of the first female general assignment news reporters in Indy TV. She first joined WISH-TV (Channel 8) and then moved to WRTV-TV (Channel 6) in 1973. Ms. Lupear remained at RTV6 for 24 years, telling both education and health stories.
Ed Spray graduated from Indiana University. While there, he worked for IU Radio and Television Services. Then it was off to Indy, and WISH-TV (Channel 8). In 1966, he moved to Chicago and worked first for WMAQ-TV, then WBBM-TV. In the mid-1980s, he took a job transfer to KCBS-TV in Los Angeles. In the mid-1990s, he co-founded HGTV while working for Scripps Network. In 2005, Ed retired as president of Scripps Networks.

These stations will add to Allen's local television portfolio, as he recently purchased DuJuan McCoy's Bayou City Broadcasting, and CBS/FOX affiliate WEVV-TV (Channel 44, Evansville) along with a Louisiana TV station.
Allen Media Broadcasting will own the stations, but Bob Prather's USA TV/Heartland Media will continue managing day-to-day operations. USA TV is a joint venture with MSouth Equity Partners.
