| Reproductive Rights
In Judaism, life is sacred. Banning potentially lifesaving medical procedures and interfering with a doctor’s decision-making runs contrary to the Jewish commandment to protect life.
WRJ is a leading advocate for reproductive rights and health and continues to oppose state and federal restrictions that limit access to birth control and safe abortion services.
WRJ brings Jewish communities together to pursue reproductive health and rights as a collective voice.
WRJ’s work—and that of our Districts and local affiliates—recognize that reproductive rights mean more than abortion. Therefore, we are active in many aspects of reproductive rights, including sex education, Plan B access, and period poverty/parity. We also speak out for reproductive rights in Canada, where there are no restrictions on rights, but the economics (health care monies, etc.) are used to severely impact access in some parts of that country.

Repro Shabbat and WRJ
Reproductive freedom is a Jewish value. Together with the National Council of Jewish Women. we host Repro Shabbat annually on the Shabbat when we read Parshat Mishpatim, which contains the verses commonly used as the foundation of Judaism’s approach to reproductive health, rights, and justice. In these challenging times, we are as committed as ever to exploring these issues.

Before attending this program (or if you are just interested in what is going on), please watch the documentary film, “Under G-d” on PBS (free to view here), ahead of this program. The film is about the national Jewish response to the Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization U.S. Supreme Court decision woven through the lived experiences of impacted Jewish women and the various lawsuits currently being launched by rabbis, Jewish organizations and interfaith leaders to challenge the overturning of Roe v. Wade, state by state.
