FA21 - Week 3: Vidterms edition.

Snotty, by nature.

For those with allergies, we feel you, and hope you make it through these Santa Anas unscathed. While a drippy nose during SoCal’s annual mid-October dry heat can be standard-issue, real symptoms of your cousin Viddy (fever, sore throat, runny nose) are a clarion call to get tested – vaxxed or otherwise.

Tritons sans symptoms: you no longer need test weekly – provided that you’re all vaxxed up. It’s still twice-a-week testing territory for those with exceptions to the vax mandate, and – as always – a positive wastewater email means you need to get tested ASAP.

Nightmare on whelm street.

Let's face it, COVID is extra. You have tons of your own ish to manage, and this virus cruises in like 'look at me, I’ve been doing this for almost two years!' – while you’ve been grinding for literal decades. It's overwhelming, and you are 'over' being whelmed.

Please know that it's normal to feel this way, so try your best to prioritize and embrace self-care.

Celebrate yourself – physically and mentally – with wellness offerings from Recreation;
Or maybe just take a moment to enjoy some giant pandas rolling around in the snow. It's exactly as great as it sounds.

Descent in exposure.

It’s still here, there and everywhere, despite recent (and hard-earned!) drops in community infection rates. Like it or not (of course you don’t like it), COVID may be co-working nearby – in classrooms, labs, or res halls on campus.

Don’t call us, we’ll call you. Feel free to keep tabs on the virus’ whereabouts using our Potential Exposure Location Dashboard, and pay close attention to spaces you’ve frequented. Remember: being present at the same location as a known positive doesn’t mean you’re definitely exposed to the virus; you’ll be notified by public health if you’re considered to be a too-close-for-comfort contact.

What rhymes with Zoom?

Gloom. Well, that’s kinda a bummer.

Loom? Meh, it’s an outdated textile reference, and semantically sorta creepy.

Plume. Definitely too smoky.

Tomb? Ew, embalmy.

OK then, Room!?! Perfect, I presume. For whom?

Masks are like sunscreen.*

That is, if sun damage was decidedly more deadly than 'Rona, and you could prevent others from getting burned by dolloping SPF on your own body. Perhaps it’s not the best analogy – but we’re sticking to it, just like you’ve been sticking to mask-wearing.

Thank you, Tritons, for continuing to mask up during events and outdoor activities. Because of your diligence and hard work, COVID cases continue to drop… and as sure as the setting sun: future decisions to ease restrictions on campus are dictated by data.

* But, of course, masks are required inside, and sunscreen isn’t. You get where we’re going, right?
