In this issue: origami balls, squid game, and naan compliance, oh my!
FA21 - Week 1: Icky sticky edition.
Stickies and tomes.
While they may not break bones, words and images can definitely hurt. So, if you’re using sticky notes to create window art for all to see: we applaud your inter-suite coordination and Triton ingenuity, but ask that you cut out the messaging that some folks may find Post-it-tively offensive.
We pride ourselves on fostering an inclusive, welcoming community – and we know you don’t mean to antagonize. How about you try using your extra sticky notes to create some Sonobe modular origami balls instead?
Quench before class.
Because you gotta keep your mask on in lecture, lab, and section – and although it’s clever, this baby-wipe DIY is a hard NO – please go ahead and disobey your thirst until class is over by drinking your water outside, pre- and post- only.
We know that hydration is key to that youthful, dewy glow – but so is, you know, not getting COVID.
All I wanna do is Zoom-a-Zoom in peace.
Just check for space, and boom – you’ll be able to take your remote classes from a quiet location on campus. Click for more info on reservations and availability in the Libraries, Price Center, or Computer Labs near you.
SWD Game.
We know that attending college while concurrently carrying caregiving responsibilities – let alone during a global pandemic – is a heck of a lot to manage.
Snotty or nice: If you’re using our vending machines, be sure to insert the testing tip first (the bit that just tickled your septum) into the media in the vial. Screw it tightly to make sure there’s no leakage, and put it in the bin for vials – not the one for recycled clamshell cases. Oh, and please do it outdoors.
Test, a bit outside? If you completed your required COVID-19 testing outside of the UC San Diego network (Student Health, vending machines, Price Center, or UC San Diego Health locations), send an email to shsmr@ucsd.edu and attach your result and PID to ensure correct attribution.
Compliance: Yesterday, Sept. 30, students who are not in compliance with the COVID-19 Vaccine Mandate were referred to the Office of Student Conduct for progressive disciplinary action. If you received this email, act now.
Naan compliance: Coming soon to the Price Center – an Indian street food vendor with a pun-tastic name we love – Curry Up Now.
Corrections agency: In last week’s WWL, we incorrectly stated that fully vaccinated students – after notification of COVID exposure – are unable to work on campus. This is not the case; vaccinated students who have been exposed may return to campus for class/ work, provided they wear a mask at all times.
Stay Connected, Stay Protected
As you reach the end of your first full week at UC San Diego this quarter – and start to get settled into a day-to-day routine – we hope that you’ll appreciate this quick list of ways to ensure you stay healthy and connected to your Triton community:
