| April showers bring May flowers. While allergy sufferers prefer not to think about that too much, any rain seems welcome right now to wash away the yellow stain on everything.
It is also the start of the chimney swift nesting season. Karen Linehan (our wonderful Environmental Education Coordinator) was certainly excited to welcome her annual residents back to their tower at her home. Our hope is our own tower at Longleaf will welcome our first tenants soon.
We are so fortunate to interact with our campus here between Peiffer and Camellia Lane. With recent additions we are now just shy of 11 acres. When I arrive each morning, the call of all the birds welcomes the new day. The caws of the crows attempting to overpower the calls of other birds. I’m always listening out for the hawks who send a reminder that this is their domain. Read more >>>

Spotlight on Chimney Swifts
|
Did you know chimney swifts are aerial acrobats that help control insect populations, but their habitats are rapidly disappearing? As part of our conservation efforts and emphasis on environmental stewardship, FSW built a chimney swift tower at the Longleaf Center to provide a safe nesting site for these amazing migratory birds.
Today, our Middle School artists are bringing the tower to life with a beautiful mural celebrating the swifts and their role in a healthy ecosystem. Stay tuned for photos of their work in next week’s newsletter!
