This is a new section that we have introduced in the last Immigration Spotlight Newsletter.
Please find the most frequently asked questions that our staff has been receiving this week through phone calls and emails:
I am making summer plans and I noticed that my I-20 is expiring and this is not my final semester. What should I do?
If you haven’t met with your academic/class advisor yet, please do so. The advisor you should meet with is the one that helps you with your degree audit. Once it is determined that you need more time to complete your program and your I-20’s program end date is ending, you should submit an
Extension of Program request to OGS
before the current end date that’s listed on the I-20 passes. You should do this as soon as possible, no later than 2 weeks
before your I-20 program end date. Don’t wait until the last day.
How many online classes can I take in Fall 2023?
We anticipate that COVID exemptions will no longer be in place for the 2023-2024 academic year, therefore we request that students keep this information in mind in preparation for the Fall 2023 registration period. This means that all international students enrolled at NYU may take no more than 1 class or 3 credits of online class that would count towards the full-time enrollment requirement.
Who can help me with Tax Questions?
Unfortunately, NYU is not equipped to advise on individual tax issues; however, OGS has some resources for students. Please check the
information on our Tax website which has some basic information, tax resources,
FAQs, and Glacier Tax Prep software (free tax filing software available to NYU students, alumni, and their families).
You can contact the Glacier Tax Prep Support Center via the Help link at the top of any screen when you are logged in for questions. You may also choose to register for and attend one of the
tax workshops listed below in the Workshops section of this email. Beyond that, you must consult with a tax professional as listed in the Helpful Resources section of our
Tax website.
