Introducing the Office for Campus Life | June 25, 2024 |
|
|
Hey Jumbos!
Have you been thinking about how you might get involved in social activities at Tufts? If so, you’re in luck because this week we are introducing you to the Office for Campus Life (OCL).
From large scale organizations like Tufts University Social Collective (TUSC) to smaller groups like the Cheese Club, the OCL team advises more than 350 TCU-recognized, student-run organizations, supporting the growth and development of students in the areas of leadership and self-governance, and assists students in planning and coordinating a broad range of social, cultural, and educational programs.
Check out this week’s video to learn about student organizations from your fellow Jumbos:
|
There’s a lot to choose from so where do you start? We got you! Here are a few ideas…
|
- Explore the JumboLife website where student organizations are listed and post updates.
- Follow social media accounts; many student organizations post events, tryouts, photos, and more.
- Attend the Student Organization Fair on Friday, September 6 on the Academic Quad, Medford/Somerville campus.
-
Go to events hosted by student organizations you’re interested in; many host events that are open to all.
- Read your Jumbo Digest! On Sundays during the academic year, you’ll receive an email from Student Life with a convenient at-a-glance look of what’s coming up for the week ahead.
-
Consult with the OCL team; they’re a great resource to answer questions and give some guidance on getting connected through social activities.

Did you know that Tufts owns a property in Woodstock, New Hampshire with easy access to White Mountain National Forest and surrounding recreation areas? Well, we do! It’s called the Loj (pronounced LOHge). With guidance from the OCL team, the property is managed by Tufts Mountain Club (TMC), one of the oldest and largest clubs on campus. TMC offers diverse trip opportunities to the Loj for all students, free gear rentals, transportation options, skill-building clinics, and more.

|
OCL is located in the Mayer Campus Center (next to the bookstore). No doubt you will spend some time in this central hub on campus that includes:
|
|
|
-
popular dining options: Hotung Café, Commons Marketplace, and Pax et Lox Kosher Deli;
- the student-run Sink Coffeeshop;
- Tufts information booth;
- an outdoor patio; and
- lounge areas where students kick back and relax, enjoy board games, or ping pong.
|
|
|
The Campus Center is also where student organizations meet and where they and many on- and off-campus partners host pop-up events like an Acai Bowl Bar, Smoothie Day, and free pie on Pi Day; displays by local clothing and jewelry vendors; student organization fundraisers (i.e., baked goods, flowers, and bubble tea sales); and takeover/tabling events hosted by the Division of Student Diversity and Inclusion (DSDI) Center, Career Center, Alumni Engagement, or the Center for Awareness, Resources, and Education (CARE).
OCL team members welcome students to come by their offices next to the Campus Center’s information booth, but you’ll also see them walking around—be sure to say hello and introduce yourselves!

SMFA-based Student Organizations |
Recognized by TCU, SMFA Student Government Association (SGA) is the student-led government body that works with Student Life at SMFA to program events, support SMFA-based student organizations and advocate for fellow students at the SMFA Boston/Fenway campus. While SMFA-based clubs are organized by SMFA students, all students are welcome.
