Parent & Family Orientation |
As we prepare to welcome students to campus, we are equally excited to welcome you too! We invite First Year and Transfer Families to attend an optional Parent & Family Orientation. This program is designed to help you learn more about American University and become more acquainted with the resources and professionals who will partner with you over the next four years to support your Eagle's success!
During the orientation, you can attend sessions on various topics, including academic success, campus involvement, and safety. You will also hear from current students and alumni. While participation is optional, it's a great opportunity to get to know AU better. Session registration as space permits.
Date: Sunday, August 18 or Monday, August 19. Choose the day that works best for your schedule or that aligns with your student’s move-in date. (Families moving in on Saturday are welcome to join the Sunday session.)
Time: 4:00 p.m. – 6:30 p.m.
Location: Mary Graydon Center + other campus locations, American University

Startup & Standout 2024, hosted by the Veloric Center for Entrepreneurship, is a free online festival designed to help students hone their entrepreneurial instincts and build their presentation skills and confidence as they compete for $10,000 in prize money!
Through discussions, workshops, and a pitch competition, students will team up with current and incoming AU students to create and present an idea for making a social impact. It’s also a great, low-stress way to make new friends before students get to campus!
If your student has questions, encourage them to contact Danielle Vogel (daniellev@american.edu).
See the May 27 newsletter for details.

💰The fall semester bill is right around the corner! This week an email will be sent to students (and established proxies), notifying them that the bill is ready to be viewed online.
On the Student Accounts website in the proxy section, be sure to select your student's name to access their account and make payments [do not select Parent Name (You)].
The bill is due Thursday, August 1. Click on ‘Account Activity’ to see an itemized list of tuition, mandatory fees, and financial aid. A vast majority of universities, including American University, have a tuition and mandatory fee policy. With this type of policy, mandatory fees are assessed to all (or groups) of students in order to help defray associated costs, not based on actual usage of an individual student.
We have recently partnered with Grad Guard to provide tuition refund insurance should a student need to withdraw for a covered reason at any time during the semester. Visit the tuition refund insurance website for more information on Grad Guard tuition refund insurance.

🧳 Now that students know where they are going to live, the next question is, "When do they move in?" Our staff in Housing & Residence Life (HRL) is currently working to schedule new student move-in dates and will notify students in late July.
If you want to review the packing list, visit the HRL website or download a PDF version of the list here; or, if you want to see the dimensions of rooms and the furniture provided, visit this webpage and click on your student's residence hall.
