What do you love about water?
My life is centered around water. A major reason I chose to work at UCSF was because of the lap pools. As a kid, I was in the pool every day before and after school. Even when it comes to planning a vacation, the first thing I do is research where I can swim, splash, or soak.
Tell us about how you use the Fitness & Recreation Centers at UCSF.
My office is at Parnassus, so I appreciate having the Milberry Fitness & Recreation Center in the Milberry Union. There is a stunning view to be had, spanning from Golden Gate Park to the Pacific Ocean. What other gym can compete with a view like that? Nowadays there are so many distractions in our lives, but with Golden Gate Park & Mt. Sutro just outside, we can easily reconnect with nature.
How do you stay inspired?
We really have to plan for time to be physical, and
UCSF Fitness makes it easy. When work takes me to Mission Bay, I always try to grab my gym bag because the rooftop pool is truly world class. At Parnassus, it tends to be a bit more relaxed, with a shorter pool distance and different lanes for varying skill levels. I love that I can get in and out in 45 minutes. I challenge anyone to try it!
