FAFSA Opened

The Free Application for Federal Student Aid opened on October 1 and all students are encouraged to submit their application early. All students are encouraged to submit their FAFSA early. Students can fill out the FAFSA online, via the mobile application or via a paper copy (Spanish paper copy).

Local Scholarships

  • Kiwanis Club of Washington Scholarship
    Closing Date:
    February 15
    Amount: Up to $20,000
    GPA Requirment: N/A
    Description: Any graduating, college-bound high school senior who both resides in and attends school in the District of Columbia are eligible to apply for this scholarship program. Applicants will be judged primarily on leadership qualities as demonstrated by contributions to school and community. Academic achievement as demonstrated by standardized test scores, grade point average, and transcripts will serve as a secondary scoring metric. Financial need will also be evaluated, but unlike previous years students do not need to submit their FAFSA in order to be eligible to apply. 

National Scholarships

  • IEI Bi-Annual Scholarship Essay Contest
    Closing Date:
    November 1
    Amount: $1,000
    GPA Requirment: N/A
    Description: Scholarship is open to incoming and current undergraduate students in the United States and Canada. Applicant must submit an essay on one of three given topics related to HVAC, energy-efficient building, or building structure fires.
  • Regeneron Science Talent Search
    Closing Date:
    November 12
    Amount: Up to $250,000
    GPA Requirement: N/A
    Description: Talent search is open to any student who is enrolled in and attending his or her last year of secondary school in the United States or its territories. Applicant must conduct independent science, math or engineering research.
  • James Alan Cox Foundation Scholarship
    Closing Date:
    November 15 
    Amount: Digital SLR Camera 
    GPA Requirement: 3.25
    Description: Scholarship is open to college, technical school and graduate school students who are studying photography or photojournalism. Applicant must submit five digital images for still photography submissions or two videos, with a maximum duration of three minutes, for video submissions. High school students wanting to participate should only send in still photography.
  • Most Valuable Competition
    Closing Date:
    November 15
    Amount: Up to $50,000
    GPA Requirement: N/A
    Description: Competition is open to high school seniors who are citizens of the United States. Applicant must submit completed application and materials to the closest Elks Lodge. Applicants will be judged on scholarship, leadership, and financial need.
  • $1,000 November Scholarship
    Closing Date:
    November 20
    Amount: $1,000
    GPA Requirement: N/A
    Description: Scholarship is open to all high school, college, and graduate students and those planning to enroll within 12 months. Applicant must be a legal residents of the United States and international students with valid visas. Applicant must login or create an account with Niche.
  • AED Superstore $1,000 College Scholarship
    Closing Date:
    November 30
    Amount: $1,000
    GPA Requirement: N/A
    Description: Scholarship is open to graduating high school seniors and currently enrolled college students. Applicant must submit an essay on a given topic related to sudden cardiac arrest (SCA).
  • Auger & Auger Disabled Scholar Award
    Closing Date:
    November 30
    Amount: $1,000
    GPA Requirement: 2.8
    Description: Scholarship is open to graduating high school seniors with acceptance to an accredited school or current undergraduate students in the United States. Applicant must have a disability and have a minimum GPA of 2.8.
  • Education Matters Scholarship
    Closing Date:

    Amount: $5,000
    GPA Requirement: N/A
    Description: Scholarship is open to students 13 years of age or older who are legal residents of the 50 United States or the District of Columbia and are currently enrolled (or will enroll no later than the fall of 2026) in an accredited post-secondary institution of higher education. Applicant will need to submit a short response to a given prompt.
  • Griswold Home Care Scholarship

    Amount: $1,000
    GPA Requirement: N/A
    Description: Scholarship is open to graduating high school seniors with plans to be enrolled in a higher education program next year or current college students. Applicant must be currently providing or have provided support for an individual.
  • Review Your College Scholarship
    Closing Date:
    November 30
    Amount: $1,000
    GPA Requirement: N/A
    Description: Scholarship is open to legal residents of the 50 United States and the District of Columbia who are 13 years of age or older at the time of application and who are currently enrolled or have previously been enrolled) in an accredited post-secondary institution of higher learning. Applicant must provide a star rating and written review of an accredited post-secondary institution of higher learning they are or have attended.
  • Thanksgiving Scholarship
    Closing Date:
    November 30
    Amount: $1,000
    GPA Requirement: N/A
    Description: Scholarship is open to student who are at least 18 years of age and are currently, have been, or will be enrolled (or enroll no later than the fall of 2022) in an accredited post-secondary institution of higher learning. Applicant must submit an essay on the weirdest thing they have been served at a Thanksgiving dinner.

Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) – MEDI-TECH Night
When: October 13 -5:30-6:30
What:  Medi-TECH Night introduces DC high school students to education and career pathways in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM). The program will include a moderated panel discussion where April Williams, Manager of Data Governance and Standards at AAMC, and Cynthia Myrick, Manager of the IT Service Desk at AAMC will provide students with a broad view of education and career opportunities in of technology.
