The CAT participated in the Bring Your Kids To Campus Day events on April 5th by bringing out its ever-popular IT Anatomy & More interactive playground. Overseen by Brittaney Califf (CAT), the event offered old computers destined for the surplus pile available for kids to disembowel and examine the inner workings. Volunteers assisted kids with tools and provided anecdotal commentary; a “phishing” area and places for small arts and crafts projects for younger kids using reclaimed hardware pieces were also available for more hands-on learning.

Tong Zhang (Assistant Dean for Inclusive Innovation) organized a well-attended Research to Action Forum focusing on Equity in the Undergraduate STEM experience at Maseeh. Research conducted with students points to factors that contribute to a sense of belonging for STEM students from minoritized groups on our campus. By putting these research findings in conversation with broader scholarship within our region and beyond, this event helped illuminate practical steps that PSU can take to continue moving the needle toward improved diversity and equity.
