Invitation to university-wide strategic planning sessions on Nov. 7 |
Radford University recently launched an important initiative to develop the Strategic Plan 2026-2031. This plan will serve as a roadmap that defines the university’s goals over the next six years while advancing our mission, vision and values. The Strategic Planning Committee was established to guide and facilitate the development of this plan through a collaborative and inclusive process. All employees are invited to participate in a university-wide planning session with students on Thursday, Nov. 7, to contribute your ideas to the strategic plan. This will be the first of several opportunities for our broader university community to participate in the strategic planning process.
We are offering several sessions throughout the day on Nov. 7 at the Radford campus, The Hub in Radford and at the RUC campus. No registration is required for these sessions.

Cybersecurity Month: that amazing deal could cost you more than you think |
With holiday shopping in full swing, cybercriminals are ramping up their attacks. From phishing scams to fake websites, it’s easier than ever to fall victim. Before you click ‘buy,’ make sure you’re not giving hackers a free pass to your personal and financial information. Follow these best practices for safe online shopping and outsmart cybercriminals.
-
Shop only on trusted websites. Be mindful of how you search for deals. Are you clicking on links from e-mails, or are you visiting trusted websites directly? Always opt for known, reputable retailers to avoid scams. All reputable merchants use encryption to transmit information. If a webpage shows a lock icon beside the web address or begins with https, your information is being encrypted.
-
Use safe payment methods. Use a credit card instead of a debit card, as credit cards offer better protection against fraudulent charges. Also, payment services like PayPal are more secure because they act as a protective layer, keeping your financial details hidden from the seller and offering fraud protection in case of unauthorized transactions. Regularly check your bank and credit card statements. Also, IT Security strongly advises against saving payment information in your web browser.
- Keep your software updated. Ensure your devices are up to date with the latest software versions, as updates often include critical security patches. Enable automatic updates where possible to stay protected from vulnerabilities.
-
Beware of phishing e-mails and ads. During the holidays, you may receive e-mails from retailers about special offers. Cybercriminals often mimic these e-mails with phishing attempts that contain malicious links or request personal and financial information. Hover over the link to read the web address before clicking. Also, scammers can create posts and comments that contain links to malicious websites. For example, a scammer might create a fake sales post about an expensive tool set that is 80% off and include a link to a phishing site.
- Enable multi-factor authentication (MFA). MFA adds an extra layer of security by requiring something you know (password) and a second form of verification, such as something you have (code sent to your phone) or something you are (fingerprint or other biometric). This ensures that even if your password is compromised, unauthorized users can’t log in or make transactions, reducing the risk of fraud.
By taking simple precautions – like shopping only on trusted websites, using secure payment methods and enabling multi-factor authentication – you can enjoy your online shopping with peace of mind. Stay vigilant, protect your information and shop smart to outsmart cyber threats this season and beyond.
