The Social Programming Board of Washington University will host its WILD (Walk In Lay Down) Concert on November 8, 2024 from 7 pm to 9 pm. This performance requires a WashU student ID for entrance. Neighbors may notice foot traffic until 10 pm as students make their way back home. 

The Ashoka Student Group at Washington University will host the Diwali fireworks show on November 9, 2024. The fireworks will take place at Mudd Field starting at 8 pm and concluding promptly at 8:05 pm. If your pets are sensitive to noise from fireworks, you may want to bring them inside during this span of time on Saturday, November 9.

A beloved St. Louis tradition for 52 years, the Great Forest Park Balloon Glow and Race attracted nearly 150,000 attendees over two days in September. WashU is proud to have sponsored a balloon in the city we call home.

A ceremonial groundbreaking for the first building on the Danforth Campus dedicated to Arts & Sciences took place Oct. 8. The building will house some of the school’s premier departments and programs and serve as a cornerstone for scholarly and educational partnerships with other schools and units across campus.

For the first time, annual research funding to Washington University in St. Louis has surpassed $1 billion. That funding supports WashU researchers tackling big challenges from Alzheimer’s disease to air pollution to childhood depression. Research funding also ripples across the economy, sparking job growth, new construction and local spending.

Thank you for continuing to follow and participate in the community meetings regarding the proposed institutional overlay districts known as the South 40 Overlay and the Big Bend Overlay. The Plan Commission considered these items at their meeting on October 7, 2024, and recommended approval to the Board of Aldermen.

The Board of Aldermen will now begin discussing the items and host a public hearing on November 12, 2024, at 7:00pm at City Hall. For those unable to attend in-person or via Zoom, the discussion session will also be recorded and published for viewing. 

All meeting recordings and previously published presentations and documents are available for review on engageclayton.com. You may submit comments and questions in advance of any meetings through the project website or directly to Anna Krane, Director of Planning & Development Services, at akrane@claytonmo.gov.

To help underscore the benefits of public transit and encourage area college students, faculty and staff to use the system more regularly, Citizens for Modern Transit (CMT) teamed up with the St. Clair County Transit District, Metro Transit and five higher education institutions – each of which offer the Metro U-Pass Program – to host the CMT “College Transit Challenge” on Friday, September 20.

The day-long competition encouraged those affiliated with St. Louis Community College, Saint Louis University, Southwestern Illinois College, University of Missouri - St. Louis and WashU to utilize their Metro U-Pass to take transit as often as they could throughout the day.

Ridership was tracked via mobile texting, with more than 200 transit trips being tracked on competition day. WashU ultimately scored the first place spot with the University of Missouri - St. Louis (UMSL) coming in second.

WashU has launched a new partnership with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Eastern Missouri to support high school students in the organization’s Big Futures college readiness initiative.

**Due to the Dia de los Muertos Festival, traffic on Delmar Blvd. will be rerouted as follows:

Westbound Traffic:

Traffic traveling Westbound on Delmar Blvd. will be detoured North (right) at the intersection of Des Peres Ave.

Vehicles will proceed South (left) on Rosedale Ave.

Traffic will then turn West (right) back onto Delmar Blvd.

Eastbound Traffic:

Traffic traveling Eastbound on Delmar Blvd. will be detoured North (left) onto Rosedale Ave.

Vehicles will proceed East (right) on Des Peres Ave.

Traffic will then turn East (left) back onto Delmar Blvd.

Additional Information:

Officers will be stationed at both ends of the event area to manage traffic and ensure a smooth flow of detoured vehicles.

Detour signs will be prominently displayed along the detour route to guide drivers through the alternative path.

Excavation for the north south extension of sanitary and storm utilities from Olin Library to Louderman Hall continues. To accommodate equipment delivery, Throop drive will transition to single lane access with few exceptions. Pedestrian access to campus will be routed around the construction site. Access to the Greenway Pedestrian Bridge will not be impacted.
