Meet Marisa!
Marisa is our veteran Body Back instructor who is full of fun, yet intense, exercise "games" and unique ideas! She gets results!
What is your fitness philosophy? I seek to empower women to live healthy lives and feel good about themselves. My goal is to challenge clients to push past what they think they can do and achieve something more--that achievement is one of the best feelings in the world. I also want them to be proud of what they can do, what they are like now, even as they push to change. I like to keep things interesting with workouts that are fun, challenging, and varied.
What is your nutrition philosophy? Nutrition is just as important as fitness in creating a healthy life. The nutrition portion of my classes is about helping women find practical ways to eat whole, real foods and change habits, while still remembering that it's okay, even good, to sometimes treat themselves. I also spend time each session looking at the psychological reasons for why we choose the foods we do so we can change food choices and keep them changed.
Even though I have been teaching Body Back since December 2012, I am constantly learning and trying to improve my classes, reading new articles and trying new things. I believe that's the only way to really excel at anything you do: keep trying to do it even better.
How do you stay in shape? For my own fitness, I love to run and participate in group fitness classes (you'll probably see me working out with you at a Saturday Body Back from time to time). I also started taking yoga recently, and I play soccer. I am always setting myself new goals to keep myself motivated, whether that's a new race time or just pushing myself harder in the next workout I participate in.
I also love sharing the love of fitness with my son, who has grown up doing Stroller Strides and loves to invent new exercises "for the mommies" that I teach.
What is your favorite song for working out? Why? My favorite workout songs are ones that empower women and celebrate their strength, like "Run the World (Girls)" by Beyoncé.
What is your Body Back class like in 10 words or less? A place of acceptance, fun, friendship, hard work, and growth.
