A.G. Rhodes and Georgia State University Launch Innovative Elder Care Partnership

A.G. Rhodes has teamed up with Georgia State University’s Gerontology Institute on a partnership to tackle critical workforce shortages in elder care.
This collaboration, known as Scholars With A.G. Rhodes at GSU (SWAGR @ GSU), offers master’s degree students the opportunity to gain valuable hands-on experience in long-term care settings while completing their graduate training in gerontology. By combining education with real-world practice, the program aims to strengthen the elder care workforce and enrich the students’ professional development.

“The students have settled in well and have already started some great projects that will benefit A.G. Rhodes and the aging services research field. They are eager to learn, build rapport with our elders and are fun to have around,” said A.G. Rhodes CEO Deke Cateau.

Students in the SWAGR at GSU program helped with the recent installation of a large public art mural, "Aging Is Living: Celebrating Legacy and Community," outside of A.G. Rhodes Atlanta. Read more about that project in last month's newsletter.

A Guide to Addressing Resident Goals, Preferences and Priorities
A.G. Rhodes is among many nursing homes working to improve the way our team gathers the goals, preferences, and priorities (GPPs) of the elders in our homes. As part of the Moving Forward Coalition—a national movement to improve the quality of nursing home life for residents and staff—A.G. Rhodes participated in the development of a guide to support nursing home staff in addressing GPPs. Learn more and see the video below featuring our staff and elders.
Each year, people across the United States observe Hispanic Heritage Month from September 15-October 15. At A.G. Rhodes, we celebrate the contributions of our diverse residents, families, and staff, including Monique Young, an A.G. Rhodes Cobb CNA Care Partner who is of Puerto Rican descent.
From Tragedy, a Calling
Employee Spotlight: Monique Young, CNA
A tragedy that struck nearly 30 years ago sparked Monique Young’s 27-year-and-counting career as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA).
“I had a son who passed at an early age,” Monique said. “He had a liver disease and had multiple liver transplants. It was the passion of seeing the nurses and how they cared for my son; that did something to me, and I said, ‘I want to do this.’”
Happenings in our Homes
