Dear friends,
We are excited to share the third installment of our new quarterly newsletter, From the Archives, featuring updates, activities and acquisitions at the UC Santa Barbara Library’s Special Research Collections (SRC).
In this issue we are celebrating the inherent diversity of the collections and archives housed within SRC. From botanical portfolios to underwater photography or from wax cylinders to American religious communities, SRC is full of the unexpected and fascinating. Join us as we delve into the lives of Santa Barbara art power couple and longtime friends of the Library Mary Heebner and Macduff Everton; explore the exceptional legacy of the late Black Studies lecturer Dr. Shirley Kennedy, who not only blazed a path for black activism in Santa Barbara but also recognized the import in preserving her experience with it; and learn more about the acquisition of the American Radio Archives, one of the world’s largest and most valuable collections of radio broadcasting, with original recordings and materials dating back to 1922.
At the Library, our mission is to preserve and protect our collective history so that we may gain insight into our past, present and future. We hope that you enjoy learning more about the UCSB Library’s Special Research Collections and its role in providing access to primary source materials that support excellent scholarship and research.
Many thanks for your continued interest in and support of the Library,
