Introducing Health and Wellness Resources | June 11, 2024 |
|
|
Hello Jumbos!
In today's email, we introduce departments whose primary focus is health and wellness and which are supported by the Student Health and Wellness Fee. Please take your time to explore the information here and on our website. Feel free to contact any of the departments with further questions.

Located on the Medford/Somerville campus at 124 Professors Row across from Fletcher Field, Health Service is your place for primary health care. The services provided are confidential. In-person and telehealth visits are available, and students have access to medical advice after hours and on weekends.
Students can make an appointment by visiting the Patient Portal or calling 617-627-3350. (Tip: Put this number in your phone!)
Health Service provides a range of offerings including:
|
|
| Counseling and Mental Health Service (CMHS) |
Counseling and Mental Health Service offers brief individual counseling, group counseling, and consultation. All services are confidential. The main office is located at 120 Curtis Street on the Medford/Somerville campus, and SMFA students are also able to receive mental health services on site at 230 The Fenway.
Psychiatry care for those currently in counseling on- or off-campus is available. Students who have UnitedHealthcare Student Resources as their insurance provider are covered for on-campus Psychiatry services. All others incur a charge.
Students looking for longer-term counseling or care that falls outside our Scope of Care can use CMHS' community provider referral page to begin contacting providers around Tufts or at home to determine availability and fit.
When you arrive on campus, make an appointment to meet in-person or virtually by calling 617-627-3360 during office hours if you’d like to meet with a CMHS counselor. You can also schedule a visit or schedule an Ask a Counselor telephone consultation online or by dropping by the office. In an after-hours emergency, the Counselor on Call can be reached by calling CMHS at 617-627-3360 and following the prompts.

Additional Suggestions From CMHS |
To help make your transition to Tufts as smooth as possible, we recommend the following:
|
-
If you are currently in counseling and/or psychiatric care, connect with a local provider for ongoing treatment. It is important to begin looking for providers in the local community over the summer, as their availability is best at this time. Your insurance company can help you find an in-network provider in the state of Massachusetts.
-
Medication management: If you are currently taking psychiatric medications, get a 3-month supply of your prescriptions from your provider to cover your needs while looking for a local provider and/or pharmacy.
-
Identify a local pharmacy: Contact your insurance company to find the best pharmacy options for you in the area. There is a CVS in Davis Square (about a 20 minute walk from campus). Inman Pharmacy delivers to Health Service two times per day during weekdays, and Capsule Pharmacy delivers to student housing.
-
Transfer your prescription to the local pharmacy of your choice: Once you have identified a pharmacy, contact them for information about which prescriptions can be transferred and how to get that arranged.

Center for Awareness, Resources, and Education (CARE) |
Located inside the Campus Center, CARE offers confidential and trauma-informed support for all students impacted by sexual misconduct.
Students come to CARE to talk confidentially about their social and sexual lives, including topics such as sexual health, safer sex, hookups, relationships, and sexual misconduct (harassment, assault, stalking, or relationship abuse).
All services are free and available to students with any identity or immigration status. Currently, CARE services are offered only in English. You can make an appointment through the CARE website.
CARE has 2 student groups focused on prevention: Sex Health Reps and Green Dot. CARE staff, student Sex Health Reps, and Green Dot students lead trainings for student organizations/teams, table with sex health supplies, and host campus-wide events.

Tufts Harm Reduction for Alcohol and Drugs (THREAD) |
The mission of THREAD is to educate and engage students so they can make informed decisions about substance use that aligns with their values and goals, safety and health, and respect the community around them.
THREAD is for anyone who wants to:
|
- Explore their relationship to a substance
- Learn more about a substance and how to stay safer while using it
- Take a tolerance break
- Consider substance-free living at Tufts
- Look for community and support as a person in recovery (at Tufts and beyond)
|
Consider enrolling in optional Tuition Insurance: Tuition Insurance protects financial commitments if you elect to take time away from your studies through a Medical Leave. Enrollment in the Tuition Insurance Plan will be open until the first day of classes, September 3, 2024.
|
The Academic Integrity Tutorial (AIT module) |
The Academic Integrity Tutorial (AIT module) describes the expectations of honesty, integrity, and rigor that Tufts faculty have of students and provides information that is essential during your academic career.
The AIT takes approximately 45 minutes to complete, and it is required for all first-year students and transfer students. Please complete the tutorial by Monday July 1, 2024. If you haven’t completed the tutorial by that day, you will have an enrollment hold placed on your account. An enrollment hold will prevent you from changing your class schedule or registering for next semester’s classes.
