As the semester concludes and commencement approaches, I wanted to congratulate our graduating master’s and doctoral students and provide resources for students attending this weekend’s ceremonies. And to those of you continuing your studies at the University, I look forward to celebrating your achievements one day soon.
Commencement is the culmination of years of dedication and hard work, and I look forward to coming together this weekend to recognize all that our graduates have achieved. This spring, there are 1,738 master’s students and 345 doctoral students graduating from the University. All of our graduates should be proud! Despite the many obstacles of recent years, you have persevered and completed your degrees.
In earning a graduate degree from the university, our students learn how to make the discoveries of tomorrow and confront the challenges of our time. They create beautiful works of art that enrich and comment on the world around us. And they acquire the skills necessary to become leaders in their chosen fields and make the world a better place. No matter where life takes you when you graduate, you will always be part of the UT community, and I know you will make the University proud.
The recently announced winners of the 2024 Graduate School Awards provide a glimpse at the quality of work produced by graduate students at the University. These are just a few examples of the amazing work taking place on our campus every day, and I am fortunate to be a part of the graduate community where these discoveries take place.
I understand that the events that have taken place during the last few weeks have affected many students, faculty and staff. Thank you for continuing your important work—I greatly appreciate your dedication to your studies and the University. In an email this week, the provost outlined policies for commencement events. I urge you to review these if you plan on attending ceremonies this weekend.
Once again, congratulations to our graduates! I hope everyone has an enjoyable and productive summer.
Hook ’em!
